Fantastic set to get your Civil War gaming on, Only 1 box needed in most gaming cases
First off it doesn't matter if you purchase the Union or Confederate set (take a look at my images above), both include the same amount of models in the same exact poses, except for two things: With the Union set your soldier sprues are in blue as opposed to grey for the Confederate soldier sprues. The second difference is that each set comes with a plain piece of paper with printed flags, Union flags for Union, Confederate flags for Confederates, that you could easily print on your own to make up two forces from the same box. Each soldier in the 10 man squad is molded right into the next soldier (shoulder to shoulder), not a bad thing, but in all actuality they were really close together when it battle, in most cases. Comes with a full set of bases to mount the soldiers on as well. Keep in mind that each soldier base will accommodate two sprues of 10 men, which equates to 20 men per base, except for the cannons and the commander, which have their own bases respectively.Though the box states a brigade (10,000 troops) it is actually three regiments, of 100 men each, three cannons and three mounted commanders. Not exactly a bad thing, just remember that your representing quite a bit of troops with a smaller amount of plastic soldiers and space. To give you an example of what I mean is that the Union force actually had 2.2 million soldiers and the Confederate force had about 1 million soldiers, can you imagine the time, space and energy it would take to paint that many miniatures? Sure they never fought all at once at any given time, but wow. Even some of the smaller wars / skirmishes had troops ranging from 500-10,000 soldiers. So, in this case we have a smaller representation at 15mm, not the 3" lead / pewter figures that Donald Featherstone or your grandpa used at a fraction of the cost. As you can see from my first included image that each soldier comes in at about 14/16th of an an inch and these are not heroic scale by any means, and more at a scale of 13mm. I've been wargaming for quite some time that I am embarrassed to say for how long, but I will say this that I usually game in 25mm-28mm non heroic & heroic scale, and 15mm is much smaller (in this case 13mm), but allows for a much more reasonably spaced game. Also allows for more troops, and less storage later on. Though at 15mm they are a bit more harder to paint, you get used to not adding much details and just get it done and it doesn't look bad at arms length which is what the tabletop game is played at.1 box can easily represent two full forces at 15 regiments / 15 squads at twenty men each, 1 cannon, and one leader per side!I highly suggest you place both sets (Warlord Black Powder Union & Confederate sets) on your wishlist. About every 3-4 weeks Amazon puts one of these sets on sale for less than 23 a piece! That means for less than 50 (46 if you want to be technical) dollars (minus tax) you can build two whole forces. Yes it doesn't represent the exact 2.2 million or 1 million soldiers per side, but who wants to play a full scale exact war for close to five years? For the more technical it would probably take 11+ years to finish the tabletop game as for real time war is much faster than wargaming affairs. So if your like me, you can use a regiment to easily represent a much larger force and use the rules by Neil Thomas (Pen & Sword) "One-hour Wargames: Practical Tabletop Battles for those with limited time and space" and just use one box of either Union or Confederate, to represent both forces, and under 2 hours have a supreme blast reenacting the American Civil War skirmishes at a much more reasonable time and space. If your willing to be daring you might as well pick up "One-hour Skirmish Wargames: Fast-play Dice-less Rules for Small-unit Actions from Napoleonics to Sci-Fi" by John Lambshead (Pen & Sword) and try out some skirmish level gaming as well with these figures or with other 15mm Civil War skirmishers also offered by Warlord Games and again have a serious blast again. Each book also available here on Amazon, provides a wide range of rules covering many different periods of war and many different scenarios to keep things fresh. Once your rules savvy or if If your savvy already the rules are almost agnostic and can be used for a wide variety of wargaming and skirmishes. Skies the limit especially with "theater of mind."Equally, if you want a popular set of rules (played at most FLGS) that are the official rule for this set it is the Warlord Games Black Powder rules and the supplement "Glory, Hallelujah!"Terrain info is everywhere on the net, with some creativity you can easily build some stuff out of wooden BBQ skewers (fences), toothpicks (smaller fences), popsicle sticks (bases for the fences), cardboard (barns buildings, foam core poster boards (more houses, buildings), styrofoam (hills), etc..Happy gaming, and hope all this info really helps in your quest to get some gaming in. Great Civil War Miniature
I love the miniature set and I got it all built in just a few hours. I didn’t care to paint them, because I love the way it is. The scale of this miniature is like 15mm.

Lots of toy soldiers
Having bought the Warlord Epic Starter set, this was no surprise as to what it contained. Honestly there is no difference in the Union or Confederate Brigade, just the color of the plastic. Union being molded in blue and the Confederate molded in gray. I choose gray because it is easier to undercoat.

Super pleased with these miniatures although they are small scale 15mm
These models are 15mm so they are very small compared to other miniatures like warhammer. Regardless they are still amazing and the box is contains pretty much a full army. Can’t wait to paint and create a diorama to display these miniatures.
