Good Night Alaska (Good Night Our World)

I loved this book - it represents different parts of the state really well and I love that the images really reflect Alaska (we have another Alaska children's book that is illustrated with brick buildings in Fairbanks, little stuff like that that just isn't quite right).My only thing is the page about the Inuits. I've never heard that term used in Alaska, although I guess it's technically correct... But I wish they'd fix it! I wish it said "Inupiat people" instead. I think people use "Inuit" mostly in Canada/Greenland. I'm part Alaska Native (Aleut) and that part made me frown. I'll just fix the words for myself when I read it to my kids. I'm sure they meant well! But I don't think that's quite the right word.We're Alaskans, by the way. Overall a very nice book! Lovely illustrations.Update - I find myself just substituting "kayakers" for when the books says "Inuits" when I read it to my kids. That's what feels best to me. The kids love the book!

good and well written for children

I spent most of my childhood growing up in Alaska but haven’t been back in a long time... I got this to read to my kids and it brought a little tear to my eyes! Cute book, fun way to remember home or a vacation.Pro: the illustrations are true to what Alaska looks like- done in a playful wayCon: the story almost seems like no one took effort in it. It’s awkwardly full of location names and descriptions. I see where they are going with it but I end up making up my own story most of the time.

Love the book,however Mt McKinley us now Denali. I understand that it may have been printed before the change. Was able to give my little one a quick history about the mountain while reading her the book.

Great book for toddlers to bring along on a cruise to Alaska. We bought some little tube animals to go with it and a month later she is still asking to go back to Alaska. We read the book, match the tube animals, and talk about the ship (pictured in the book).

Bought books for grandson so that he can see where grandma has travelled to!
