I struggled with this for an hours, even tried taping and gluing the OEM ribbon. That was a mistake, thankfully I was able to remove the tape and glue and it didn't damage the board. lol When installing a cable into the motherboard slot, it may not seem to go in all the way at first. You need to push firmly (but not forcefully) until it stays in place. Initially, I thought I had damaged the clips, but the issue was actually with the OEM ribbon cable being slightly thicker than the PS2 cable. Another tip: instead of taking the PS2 apart further, the shield can prevent the clip from opening fully. Using a plastic spudger tool I had to gently wedge between the shield and the board to lift it just enough to insert the ribbon fully. Once the ribbon is in, close the clip, and it should stay secure. All this for the Noctua mod...lol Which by the way is running awesomely. Just make sure to get the 5v noctua fan.
