Phonics at Home: Help your child with letters and sounds

Wish I'd had this book 4 years ago!
This is a cracking book which I really wish had been around 4 years ago - when my son was starting infant school. As someone who wasn't taught English the "phonics way" all the talk of phonemes, graphemes and the like just left me feeling completely confused and reaching for good old Google. This book has every answer on the subject that you could possibly want - and a whole host besides. At the back is a glossary which includes a table of the 44 phonemes (single sounds) that we use - and examples of words using them, word lists in the order that kids are taught them and suffixes. Most usefully though is a list of all the terms/phrases that teachers/kids will talk "at you" about while you nod and look as though you know what they're talking about. With this book all those educational mysteries will become clear. There are loads of word games that you can play with children, to improve their phonics confidence and with a host of fun illustrations this book isn't too "wordy" or intimidating. In fact I'd say it's an ideal companion to have at home to keep on practising what your children are learning at school (or indeed for those home schoolers out there!)

Really useful help for parents and children.
Fun, clearly-written book with lots of imaginative activities. I didn’t really understand phonics as it isn’t the way I was taught to read and write years ago. But I get it now, and feel as if I can help my kids in the way that’ll work for them at school too, which is great.
