What size grind is best? I grind my own beans with an electric burr grinder

The finer the grind, the stronger the coffee. But... if you grind it too fine, it will take too long to go through the filter and may overflow. I set my grinder right on the middle setting and it does not overflow so that is what I recommend. Also, very finely ground coffee can get bitter.

How many milliliters of water does the top reservoir hold?

I don't know because when I put it in the dishwasher it glass all cracked. I returned it.
