Decent ability to tackle thick hedges
* Physical I have used one of these before. The previous model Bosch I owned was my fathers. He got it second-hand. And it still lasted over TWO decades before it died on me. This new one has the same lightweight, quality feel. It's easy to handle as it's balanced in your hands. The cabling on this is longer than my previous model. I still recommend you get a cable extension reel to extend its range of usage. If you feel hard done by having to buy this cable reel just for this, think it will help you hoover your car and mow your lawn? * First looks It came within 24 hours. i saved £15. I decided to set up a three-year warranty. To do so you're required to surf the Bosch website. I entered into this online warranty form, two serial codes. These two codes are on the box it came in. One has a single letter in its number code. This other has just a string of 9 numbers only. Then I printed out and scanned my Amazon bill and uploaded it in the form as part of my three-year guarantee warranty. This proof of payment is uploaded at the end of the creation of the warranty and then if it is sorted, you can download and print the tailored to your customer warranty document for safekeeping. Bosch recommends you download and print this out. I would then staple the warranty and the bill of sale together and keep it somewhere safe. * What is it like to live with? These cutters are great. I recommend the application of a lubricant - such as WD-40 - to the blades. It's a good idea to apply this every time you use these cutters. It's a mild lubricant and cleaner of crusty grud. Not designed to replace dedicated oil lubricants. This one is cheaper, and i.m.h.o, just as good as the own-brand Bosch spray-on lubricant. I say this with confidence. As I used this same spray on this same Bosch model hedge cutter and it lasted over two decades! Please note, this Bosch hedge cutter is loud when you're using it. If the hedges are wet, I suggest you wait for a dry day. They can cut more than fresh growth. It's easy to cut verticle and horizontal level cuts on well-established hedges. Not all cutters can do this on strong growth. The way it is not too heavy helps when using it. It has a plastic scabbard to protect the blades when required to put it in storage for winter. * Any tips? My sister put me onto working with hedge cutting. Instead of putting it off and then having a single, major hacking of the hedges back, trim the hedges every few weeks or so. Why? It's easier to carry out these minor trimming operations than to do a big chop all at once of the hedges. You don't have bin loads of waste to deal with. And each time, this has more control over the overall tidiness of these hedges. And takes much less time than a major hack. So you're less likely to put it off. And you're more likely to keep on top of them. The blades on this Bosch hedge cutter are the same length as on my previous model. It feels great build quality. Please try not to cut the cable you're powering it with! My dad and I did this a few times! I have discovered that a replacement cable for this hedge cutter can be sourced from Amazon suppliers. So if you must maintain the safest usage of this tool and cut the cable, you can buy one for less than £20. If you don't want to buy a replacement cable, I suggest using a soldering iron, solder, insulation tape, a Stanley knife and Gorilla tape to repair it. * Summary I expected this device to be around £90. This is based on checking with a nearby, well-known physical DIY store. The one spelt with three characters. It's great it's sold on Amazon at a more manageable price.

Light, compact & easy to use
I've been wanting to buy a hedge trimmer for some time now. I kept putting it off, but finally bought this budget Bosch one due to the star rating in Amazon and the fact I own a Bosch lawnmower which is superb. I am so glad I did get a hedge trimmer as I've been previously using a pair of hand shears!!, and I don’t need to explain how frustrating and a chore it is to maintain a fairly big hedge with manual shears. Despite being small it is more than capable with its 420 watt motor. I was actually surprised how quiet the motor is. This little machine is capable of dealing with small and even medium size hedges and branches. A great choice for the gardener that wants to get the job done quick and precise. The trimmer is equipped with a 45 centimeter long blade, which has a tooth spacing of 16 millimeters. The blade has apparently been diamond grounded which should give the blade a bit of longevity and clean cutting. There is also a nice plastic blade cover that comes with the trimmer, so you can preserve the blade when not in use. The cable length is around 10m which may be enough for some people to not even require an extension reel. Handles are positioned very ergonomically that suits me quite well, and I don’t feel like I would drop it at any point in time. It’s very light, weighing in at 2.5kg which helps prevent fatigue in the old arms when reaching up. You could probably cut long grass with this trimmer if you don’t own a lawnmower, although that would be pretty back breaking! I can definitely recommend this to my friends and other Amazon users 👍🏻

Excellent tool with shortish lead
For year's I've been borrowing my next-door neighbour's cordless hedge trimmer to trim my side of our common hedge, but it's got very old and tired, so I thought I'd take the turn to get a new one. This is very good value for money. It's just the right size for our smallish privet hedge, extremely well balanced, quite light in weight and easy to use. The very first time I used it, the hedge was rather overgrown, so the half-hour's task was quite tiring, but regular trimming will be much easier. The only complaint I have about the Bosch AHS 45-16 has to do with its lead. This is permanently attached to the tool (unlike some, which have a plug attachment at the tool end), and is distinctly shorter than the leads to my other garden tools (lawn mower, leaf blower/vacuum, etc.). I can just reach the whole side of our hedge (with an extension lead), but not the end by the pavement. If Bosch had provided either a detachable lead or a full-length one, I'd give this five stars; as it is, I can only give it four.

Light enough to hold up without tiring. but still powerful enough to cut through brambles and
Light weight (2.6kg), easy to carry and operate therefore. I like it that it has a detachable power cord. This means you don't have to carry the extra weight if you do not need to. It also mean you should easily order a replacement. Powerful enough (420W) to open corridors in dense bramble and such overgrowth. I quickly went through my way to the back of the garden. Small enough to store easily. Can't comment about durability but so far, none of my Bosch motors (washing machine, lawn mower and streamer ) has died on me. I would consider both the corded (this) model and the one with the battery. However, the battery will add to the weight of the device making it harder to hold up and operate for longer.

I feel like I've died and gone to hedge cutting heaven!
For years, I've put off the idea of buying one of these hedgecutters but I finally gave in and I'm so glad I did! I feel like I've died and gone to hedge cutting heaven! Down one side of my garden is an 8 ft high and 45 ft long line of leylandii. I'd inherited a pair of Spear & Jackson hand operated shears and twice a year I have bravely ventured out to snip away until my arms were ready to drop off... Great exercise... The Bosch arrived yesterday and as soon as I could unpack it I was in the garden and had it plugged in (I needed to use a 6m extension to reach the end of my garden). Wow! This is one efficient little machine. I was able to quickly cut all the overgrown branches and within 30 minutes I'd completely finished the job - smooth looking sides and a flat even top. The length of the cutters are such that I easily reached the other side of the hedge which is about four feet wide. The operation and handling of the cutter is impressive. The handles are comfortable and well positioned for safe operation and manoeuvering. I never felt at any time that I was in danger of damaging myself. To avoid cutting through the cable I looped it over my arms and around the back of my head - this kept it safely out of the way and allowed me complete flexibility of movement. It's not a heavy machine and so fatigue isn't an issue. The fact it works so fast means the job is completed so much quicker anyway so this reduces the chances of getting tired and making mistakes (as opposed to hand shears which exhaust you very quickly!). As well as the leylandii, I was able to cut the long grass in a couple of difficult to access areas of the garden - AND under the 8ft trampoline! This goes where the lawnmower can't. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and can predict I'll be using it more than twice a year. I'm confident in recommending it to you. I appreciate I may not have covered specific areas of concern for you - if there are any questions you'd like to ask, post a comment and I'll get back to you. 2014 Update >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 17/9/14 So, 2 years on since I bought this and I had quite a few trees and shrubs to trim this week. I retrieved the cutter from the shed, plugged it in and... It worked as beautifully as when it was new. I haven't maintained or even oiled it so what a hero of a machine. Still comes highly recommended from me :)

does the job well
Bought to replace a heavier duty model which had a faulty cable (after 12 years and being severed several times) not quite as much power but still cuts through bushes and light branches with ease, easy to operate and lightweight. Good safety features and I especially like the fact the wire plugs firmly into the machine (and stays fast) and it is not wired directly into it (this would make it easier to replace wire if it were accidentally cut) good length of wire and with an extra extension easily reaches all of the garden. Recommended.

Love this!
Impressed with Bosch so far! I have a Bosch lawnmower that powers through my very thick wild grass in my garden and for the past 3-4 years, has cut it through sun and rain. I have a pretty wild garden in the sense that everything has been left to grow naturally, so have clumps and all sorts of wild grass. I just keep it low cut and trimmed so it looks neat but otherwise leave it au naturel for the wildlife who love it. My Bosch lawnmower never complains even when I drag it through thick mud on wet afternoons. So when I needed a trimmer, I naturally turned to Bosch again. And I love my hedge trimmer! Cuts through normal hedges and even some slightly thicker branches without any issues allowing me to keep my garden looking as though I had paid a professional. Well worth it.
