Wild Animals of the North

I have always loved having great artwork books about animals and sciences which I keep on the coffee table. This is one of the best that I have found. The artwork is original by Dieter Braun. Something about his style brings to mind the beautiful artwork of the late Charley Harper. Mr. Braun's animals are instantly recognizable even though they are done in an abstract fashion with straight lines and hard angles. The subject of the book is animals that are indigenous to the northern hemisphere with the book separated into sections by continent: North America, Europe and Asia. Each animal is given a minimum of one page for illustration/description though many are spread across two pages. There is an index at the back of the book which also includes a color thumbnail of each animal as well as their common name and scientific name. The animals included in the book are: North America – Puma, Bald Eagle, Kodiak Bear, Mountain Goat, Orca, Polar Bear, Seal, Blue-Footed Booby, Wolf, Chipmunk, Grey Squirrel, Bison, American Lobster, Monarch Butterfly, Texas Rattlesnake, Coyote, Elk, Sea Otter, Long-Tailed Duck, King Eider, Striped Skunk, Pronghorn Antelope, Raccoon, Reindeer, Canadian Beaver, Long-Tailed Weasel, Turkey, Pileated Woodpecker, Walrus and Puffin. Europe – Red Fox, Compass Jellyfish, Grey Heron, Roe Deer, Barn Owl, Squirrel, European Badger, White Stork, Wild Board, Hedgehog, White Swan, Black Swan, Fire Salamander, Iberian Lynx, Peregrine Falcon, European Mouflon, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Brown Hare, Wood Grouse, Red Deer, Northern Bald Ibis, European Bison, Moose and Crane. Asia – Snow Leopard, Giant Panda, Japanese Macaque, Great Black Cormorant, Red Panda, Yak, Musk Deer, Musk Ox, Golden Pheasant, Przewalski's Horse, Dalmation Pelican, Asian Black Bear, Saiga, Markhor, Alpine Hair, Arctic Fox, Ermine, Mandarin Duck, Golden Monkey, Bottnose Dolphin, Camel, Manul, Japanese Serow, Mouflon, Sperm Whale and Wolverine.

Gorgeous book that will be a perfect addition to our mammals unit. I love the illustrations so I will use it for art inspiration for my children as well. You will not be disappointed by this book!

My goodness what a big beautiful book! I am loving Nobrow Press ( Flying eye books). The illustrations are beautiful, the paper is perfection. Seems to be Nobrows go too, It's creamy and thick and the ink absorbs into it perfectly. I bought the companion book and just about every other book Nobrow offers. To all involved: please keep up the great work! personally i'm devouring up these printed pieces of art. Thank you!

This book is even more beautiful than I thought. My kids love it and so do I. It is also a lot bigger than I thought which is great. I'm considering buying another copy so I can frame multiple pages as art for my son's room. Flying Eye Books are the best! 141 pages

Great book, love the artwork

So great! ..though I wish there wasnt repeat of animals...like a few different kinds of dear...for example. A few other animals or similar animals, I am sure there are plenty of other animals that could have been chosen, but that is just my preference.

Beautiful and great quality. I have bought this several times as a gift for children.

Framed some of the pictures for the playroom! The book is well thought out in the way that the large scale prints are double sided so taking out those pages are not a hinderance on the actual reading of the book and there for are not missed.

Great graphics by the illustrator. A modern but entertaining display of animals of the world. My young one is captivated and helps him learn new words and make visual associations.

Dieter Braun's work is incredible - I am a huge fan and this second book has not disappointed. It is slightly thicker than his first book 'Animals of the South' and now his Animals of the North book is the much aniticpated follow up. It literally arrived yesterday and I cannot stop looking at it. The images are splending. I just wish I had large poster prints of these as well.

Il libro è davvero ben fatto. Copertina rigida, carta spessa e di ottima qualità. Ho dato 4 stelle su 5 solo per la scarsa cura nell'imballaggio. Un angolo della copertina era infatti stropicciato.

Dieses Buch ist absolut toll! Diese Bilder! Wahnsinn! Hier kann mann immer wieder schmökern, blättern und staunen. Also ich bin froh, dass ich mir dieses Buch zugelegt habe!
