Sage Publications The Handbook of Counselling Psychology

For anyone studying counselling psychology, this has to be the 'go to' book. It's a stocky book - smaller than A4 size and almost 700 pages - with 38 chapters on many aspects of skills and theory. Some of these include 'therapeutic work with children', 'becoming and entrepreneur-practitioner' and 'engaging with research'.Given it covers so much, it is perhaps a valuable starting point, rather than a definitive source of counselling psychology depth. But generally each chapter's references section runs to about 20 or so citations - many of which are academic papers, rather than other books. So this can be particularly helpful as a starting point for further exploration on the topic.If I had the time, I would love to go through the book from cover-to-cover, as there is so much interesting material to be explored. To date, I have simply used it as a reference book and for that purpose it has been indispensable. Yes, it's on the expensive side but it does feel like an 'investment piece' rather than 'just another expensive textbook'.If you are on your counselling/psychotherapy/psychology journey - I wish you all the very best! :)
