ABUS 160/50 All Weather Chrome 4-Dial Resettable Combination Padlock

I have about six of these locks, and they are reliable. However, the last lock I purchased had an issue. Set the combination according to the directions; now the lock does not open with that combination or the default combination. It is useless, and I did not find out until after the Amazon 30-day return policy. However, I emailed the company, ABUS, and they have sent me a new lock. The process was painless.

Got this to replace my Master outdoor lock for my patio gate. This is much better with larger number and the dials move free without jams. What I like best about this design is the dials are by the side of the lock instead of bottom like many other locks. With the dials by the side there is no need to turn the lock upside down, making it easier to dial in on the numbers, especially when you need readers like me.

My use for this was for a storage locker that I never seemed to have the key for when I wanted it. You see I don't carry every key for every last thing I own when I just want to go out in the car. Then I just want the building key and the car key, nothing else. However, car trips tend to generate things that need to go into my storage locker, and of course, I might be out when my other half wants to go in there. All of this in mind, a good, thick combination lock was a decent choice. After some research, this was the most suitable Abus lock for this purpose. Four digits was important to me, as opposed to the somewhat more common three digits. I matched the lock to the strength of the locker, in other words, the lock is a bit (but not much) stronger than the cage bars you can see in one of the photos. In a lot of contexts, you're basically trying to ensure your lock matches what you are locking. Here I'm satisfied that's suitable for a my storage locker (which itself is behind a locked door). Unlocking is as simple as putting in the correct combination and gently pulling, re-locking is pushing the lock closed and spinning the combination dials to a random setting. This lock should resist cutting to a reasonable extent, but I'm under no illusion that it's entirely impregnable (no lock is, and for that matter, almost no container is). However, I'm very satisfied that this lock will do what it claims to do, and gets 5 stars as a result.
