Burlesque may be funny but The Donald cannot be hurt by โFake Newsโ
At the time these cartoons were written Donald Trump was a minor occasionally featured character in the Doonesbury repertory. Four years ago, when I bought Yuge! : 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump he was still a candidate and it seemed possible to laugh him away. How innocent we were.Events have proved that Donald Trump is an over entitled, self-centered, deaf to himself, indifferent toward others, many times failed business man, bully and President. Very possibly a soon to be re-elected President. It is deliberately part of the American System, but also highly symbolic that he owes his election to a lot of empty American space. The problem with doing a burlesque of Trump is that so much of it depends on things he only might have said or done. When he was a side show, New York failing developer he was good for these kinds of laughs. Now they are so much Fake News. His never happened, but might have misadventures on his Yuge yacht may have been funny, but they are not true. It is funnier and of greater irony D.T. managed to bankrupt his casino. His many associations with Playboy, including participation in a movie- And while I prefer that the First Lady of all presidents get move deference, he has at least three known โBaby Mommasโ. His associations with the sins of the flesh are widely photographed events and very expensive legal bills where they are not. And yet he is still the darling of the religious right. In the history of the United State, only one presidential candidate has ever said โHit him, I will pay for itโ. The Donald has continued with ugly physical threats and angry divisive language and yet this same man is shocked that there is politically driven violence in the streets. The list of real direct from life events, quotes and the rest are grist for the cartoon mill. Making up jokes may have seemed sufficient 4 years ago, but now they are stale, fake news.

A warning...
Sometimes we forget just how long Donald Trump has been running for President . He first admitted thinking about it in 1987. But Garry Trudeau has been featuring him his "Doonesbury" comic for at least 30 years. He's never been one of the main characters but has often been an adjunct character; the others play off him and the aura he gives off. Trudeau began featuring him with the brown hair, but in recent years, the coif has been orange and has become more exaggerated. He's also been written with an "edge" and an air of venality, seemingly absent from the other characters.Garry Trudeau has published a new book, "Yuge!", repeating the strips featuring Donald Trump. It's being released at a good time. Trudeau began "covering" Donald Trump in the late 1980's when he was prominent developer in New York City...and Garry Trudeau was a prominent cartoonist. Trudeau began adding Trump in the late 1980's and he was included in stories with other characters like Duke, Honey, BD, and Boopsie. Trump did not like being mocked in print and said so, loudly. Trudeau continued to use Donald Trump as a character, much to Trump's annoyance. Trump tossed slams at Garry Trudeau and Graydon Carter of "Spy Magazine" in interviews. Later, "tweets" became Trump's means of fighting back at people he considered "unfair" to him.Trudeau begins with Trump talking about entering the 1988 Republican contest and then skips ahead to the 2000 when he wants to run for the Reform Party nomination. Whether you're a supporter - or not - of Trump, the "Doonesbury" comics are a searing reminder of just who Donald Trump is. They should be read by everyone voting in November.

Very Dangerous
I'm a fan of Doonesbury, and definitely an "un-fan" of any narcissistic, rumormongering politicians who lie, cheat, steal, slander, exaggerate. etc. So, naturally, I gravitated to YUGE! I had forgotten how Trudeau had been so prescient about Don the Con over the decades, because apparently many of us just were'n't astute enough to comprehend what was happening. Now, we can look back over time and realize how spot-on Gary's strips were. However, if you're ready to lay your hands and eyes on a copy yourself, be forewarned that YUGE! is not merely humorous, but dangerous. I made the mistake of showing my copy to a neighbor, who took one glance at the book and started emitting steam from his ears. You might think about obtaining a gun safe in which to store this dangerous weapon.

truth is stranger than fiction!
Trudeau, in his typically dry humor, pictures the worst President in American history. The irony is not subtle, the humor is tinged with disgust. Unfortunately, the sycophants of that wannabe King will never read nor understand this sagacious book!

Very funny
The subject character would be incensed if he read the book. I got a good laugh out of it.

And gives me so much fun. Give Mr Trudeau a hug from me next ...
G.B. Trudeau's "Yuge" is a most important book these days. It has given me so much pleasure again and again. And I have heard that Mr Kim Il Trump is start raving mad about it. He, he. And this book really lower my blood pressure. And gives me so much fun. Give Mr Trudeau a hug from me next time you see him. I ordered an extra book which I handed over to one of my friends yesterday. He started to laugh immediately. I recommend it to all thinking people of the world. You can't live without it.

He is brilliant, I just had not realised how long he had been at it and how prescient he was about Trumpery

I just wish it had a happier ending. Like Hillary or Bernie winning that election.
As always spot on and intelligent.
