**Update 2 9/25/2016: I'm sad to report that both of my HDMI to S-video Wiistar converters are now failing. The output video signal has developed an intermittent jump/roll that is so distracting it makes viewing completely unenjoyable. I've isolated the error to the converters and will now attempt to replace them. I'm knocking off 2 stars due to the shortened useabld lifespan of the items, which was 45-60 days.****Update 8/4/2016: Replacing the HDMI cable with the most up-to-date version has resolved the audio issue noted in my original review, which appears below.**This actually (mostly) delivers on its promise. It's one failing is that it doesn't seem to be able to transmit/translate the audio from HDMI to RCA. Whether that's due to a failing of the HDMI cable or the converter itself, I'm not sure at this point. HOWEVER, it does do the one thing I couldn't otherwise manage: translate HDMI to S-Video with a high-def quality output. For that conversion alone, I'm thrilled.

This is the second HDMI to s-video/RCA composite converter I have tried. I wanted something that did not chop off the top and left side of the picture. The good news, this one does not chop anything off. But at 1080x, it tends to give me a blip of the color bars with "no signal - NTSC" message and then returns to giving a picture. My Satellite box can be set to 720 to remove this issue, but my digital DVR tuner does not have that option and it flashes out 1-2 times an hour with 1080p@60 signals. External power or not does not make a difference. I tend to watch certain channels over the air to get a full picture because my Sat provider chops off the sides off of the show. Thus, I need something that works well at 1080p so I can watch shows without the screen being chopped off or blipping out. It is hard to watch a show with text narrative popping up and all you see is "urs earlier that day" or a character getting a text message displayed for us to read and words are missing for being chopped off. Trying #3.....

I have a 2004 tv that does have HDMI but doesn't support modern hdmi modes, so my xbox one, nintendo switch and steam link all do not work on it. This does the job of converting to s-video analog well and has decent picture considering the format it is converting to. Other similar devices i used had very annoying artifacting with movement making it completly unusable for playing games at all. Obviously a modern TV with good HDMI would be better, but that wasn't an option at the moment.When using this for modern consoles you get much better results by changing the input signal to 720p or lower rather than 1080 or greater. if you are using this you can't get more than 480i so there is no reason to push the resolution higher than the minimum.

This does what I need - converts HDMI from a Roku 3 that only comes with HDMI out into S-video to a TV for video and a surround sound system for sound. Of course the picture quality is not as good as using the native HDMI and doesn't seem quite as clear as what S-video is capable of but it solves the problem I had. Maybe it will solve yours too but doubt it's common.Worth noting is that 1. Power adapter seems unnecessary and2. Double check your cords are all tight connections(got a weird purple screen "HDCP Unauthorized. Content Disabled" at first so that scared me that this product was bad, but it was just a loose connection at one of the many connectors I now need, thanks to Netflix phasing out options on new models and support for older models).

Purchased one of these originally in 2017 and worked great. Had a similar need in late 2018 and so asked for the same item. Something has changed, RCA plugs are now male and some of the markings are different. Overall that is not a big deal, but more importantly the product does not work.Only will output black and white and the vertical hold is not working so the screen rolls, audio output does not work at all. Amazon replaced it but the replacement functioned the same way, that is not at all.Bad product, do not purchase.

Does a good job not truncating, not giving jagged lettering, and not messing with transmitted aspect ratio. However, be careful handling when the power is attached. The connection is internally fragile and can fail.

Did exactly what I needed it to do. Quick delivery. This worked to convert the broken hdmi input (on my tv) to the S video-coax inuput. Quality product. Worth noting that it does require a mini usb power source (not included).

This device let's me connect my ROKU to my XVGA TV, which has only RCA and S-video inputs. Set your ROKO to 720p. Due to copying technology, ROKU might purple-screen on you with this setup. Just unplug the ROKU and the TV from the power for about a half hour, and then plug them back up. That cleared up the issue for me.

My only problem with this device is i wish that they have S video MALE so that can be llug straight to tv. Now i need to buy s video cable .

This is the second one that was ordered and it worked for about 2 weeks, then stopped. The same thing happened with the first one.

This device did not work when hocked-up. No picture or sound on TV.
