Crain 217 Hook Handle Razor Carpet Knife

Blades are easy to change and adjust. Feels good in the hand. Not every expensive.

This carpet cutting device allowed the home owner to remove the wall to wall carpeting and padding in his own home. The razor blades must be purchased separately and can be stored inside the device itself. We bought a small set of eight blades to start, I believe. The device is so ergometric and friendly to hands and fingers! It only took one blade to cut through a 30’ x 30’ room with thick wall to wall carpeting and padding. We are not contractors or installers either, just two senior citizens trying to save money. Ordered device (and separately purchased blades) online. Came on time in the mail undamaged. Great little purchase. Really got the job done. Well, one more hallway and last bedroom to go….

Most of the new box cutters fold up and don't work that well. This one is solid, and is easy to grip. The only problem is the blade doesn't retract so you'll have to find a container or a scabbard to put it in when you're not using it.

Great knife pretty comfortable to hold the hook does not bother my hand it fits nicely. The only reason I'm giving a 4 star (4.5 if it were possible) is its a little awkward to make precision cuts with the top side of the blade. The hook gets in the way and makes it "weird". Other then that it's a great knife although you may have to glue in the little magnet mine kept falling out.

Had to remove an old carpet alone so wanted to cut it in manageable pieces. This worked perfectly! Cut through the carpet and pad with one stroke the majority of the time. Made removal an easy job. Did purchase replacement blades and used some as the adhesive in the carpet dulls the blade. But blades are double sided so can flip them before having to change them out.

I love this carpet knife! I do flooring, and I definitely know a great knife when I have one in my hand!This feels nice in my hand, it holds many extra blades inside, changing or flipping around a blade is quick and easy.. the magnet also makes it nice and easy holding a blade in place while opening it up!Fantastic!!!

Very poor form not to include even a single blade for the price. And it is depicted in the photo with a blade, which implies it comes with at least one.It would be better if the blade could be fully retracted into the handle. It cannot, in spite of maker's claim on the Q&A that it can. Kind of unsafe as a result. Blade needs to be removed for storage.
