Q: Can the bottle be opened?

Haven't tried to open it. There is a cork in the bottle, a decorative cord around the neck and bottle opening. This cord has a wax seal to keep the ends together and attached to the bottle. I suppose you could get the bottle open, but I’m not sure you could get closed again to look like the original.

Q: Is the wooden base glued to the ship, or can it be easily detached?

The ship sits on a plastic, or maybe resin?, representation of ocean water...all completely sealed within the glass bottle. A wooden piece, on the __outside_ of the bottle , curved to fit , serves as the base and keeps the bottle from rolling. The wood piece is glued onto the bottle. It seems pretty securely glued but you could probably force it off if you really wanted to, the bottle is sturdy thick glass, like antique bubbled glass. Hope this helps. :)
