what is the plunger for? How does it extract, say a mini broken headphone jack?

The tool is made for extracting molex pins. Once inserted, the outer part disengages the lock tab and the plunger pushes the pin or socket out of the plug housing. Not sure if it would help with the headphone jack.

Great pin extractor

This TE pin extractor worked like a charm!I was able to remove a number of pins from some AMP TE Metrimate connectors.Without this tool, its seriously impossible to remove them.I can highly recommend it!!
