Q: will this work in USA?

Yes. I used it for months.. I live in Indiana. >You will have to buy & install a modem & SIM that is USA compatible (NOT INCLUDED). Sierra Wireless MC7455 suggested. >Iv'e used a 6' USB cable that you can buy at the gas station = works great! >SIM adapters, of course can be flaky. Try and get the correct SIM size if possible.

Q: what exactly does this do ? does it send your isp internet through the gsm band to anywhere you have the sim ?

It is a enclosure for a mini pcie cellular modem. You would also need to buy the modem and get a Sim card for your local provider. Then connect it to a computer to get internet access.

Q: do i need a hotspot service for this modem to work or will work fine with data plan?

In my personal experience it works off of data plan and not hotspot. However this is based on a GSM carrier and not CDMA carrier like verizon or Sprint. I don't think that would matter however, the phone tells the network when it's sharing data through hotspot. and this is only a radio like your phone connects to a cell tower. So you shouldn't need a hotspot service in order to use this with your own radio chip.

Was Able to Update Several Sierra and Quectel Modems

I was a bit worried once I found out that my modems were m.2 instead of PCI-e however an adapter allowed me to upgrade my modems firmware (Sierra EM7565 & Quectel RM502Q-AE) without issue. Just ensure that you have the right drivers for each.

Did not fully work with a Sierra Wireless MC8777V modem. It sort of recognizes the modem, but couldn't correctly communicate with it. What I needed

This was exactly what I needed to set up a sierra wireless mc7455 for use with our custom built home internet modem. It worked fine. I had a small issue with the suggested application working on my windows machine, but I'm not certain that it was the fault of the hardware.

3.3V output is too high

if you electronics need good power supply and voltage reference, please check 3.3V ouput before install.My board was at 3.9V. PCI express mini card spec is 3.3V +/- 9%.
