THIS, THIS, THIS!!
This is the industry standard for a reason. When you're a bass player that wants to have complete control over what's going to the PA but also need your own stage monitoring because everybody else complains when too much bass overloads the monitors? Plus, many of the other issues bass players are trying to resolve quickly and efficiently so they can get to the bar while the guitar player is still futzing around with their setup. My main board consists of Tuner > HPF (High Pass Filter) > FX Loop Pedal > SansAmpSansAmp DI goes to the board, the 1/4" Out goes the FX Loop Return on my amp head with 15" Cabinet for stage monitoring. My stage monitoring tells me exactly what's being delivered to the PA. The sound person can mix accordingly with little fuss.I looked at several other preamps and they were either too busy, or didn't have enough preamp control.Just get this. It's the right tool for the job. Will make your life a ton easier, as well as the person running the board at your venue.

Best gear purchase in years
We use a rack mount version of this at our church but this is the ultimate gig machine for going into the board direct. I play a high value custom Warwick 5 string and the tones this produces are tight, smooth, and punchy. If you want to dial up other tones, its easy. With a few knob adjustments I get dang near the same tones across the spectrum from my back up bass which is a hot rodded Sire P7 5 string. I'd recommend it to anyone sick of lugging around amp gear to shows where the house has a good system. Background--been playing for 35 years. Everything from Hawaiian reggae, to rock, to country, to metal, to blues. This thing is a tone monster and sound guys love it.

Excellent cab emulation
I have my pedal board set up as so I can play as a one-man band including the ability to use my guitar to Loop bass lines. I had been initially just dropping the octave with a whammy pedal and running that into the PA through a passive DI box. I came to realize that the sound, while passable for a bass tone, needed an increased signal level because I was having to turn the gain up so much, but getting a lot of noise with that. I started looking at active DI's, but then elected to go with this pedal which provides cabinet emulation. I'm so glad I chose this route. It has vastly improved the bass tone I am getting in addition to providing the appropriate signal level. Highly recommend this product.

That Sound IS there
Pleasantly surprised. It adds life and character to a direct bass signal. Don't get me wrong, i like the sound of my bass direct to an interface and thru a couple of good monitors. But, in a mix context, you need this extra character (eq, speaker sim, hint of saturation) and instantly you are in tone heaven.. this and a little bit of compression gives me a big smile. I use it direct to an active 12" JBL speaker, sounds amazing.

This thing is incredible.
I am new to playing bass. This pedal was highly recommended in a bass players group that I am part of. I have a Fender Rumble 500 which has been raku good to me. Adding this pedal took it to the next level. The tones that you can achieve are next level. You can't go wrong with this pedal. It looks great, sounds great and the price can't be beat.

My new favorite pedal
This has quickly become my favorite bass pedal in my collection. It pairs well with just about every other effect I have and adds a whole new dimension to the sound. If you play bass with distortion, you will find this especially handy. The EQ segment of this pedal thickens up your sound adding definition to a distorted signal so it's more musical and less "fizzy bass." This paired with a Proco Rat and a treble boost makes for a great Justin Chancellor-esque tone. While its effect is, in my opinion, much less pronounced with a clean signal it still adds depth to the sound. This pedal will also provide a creamy powertube style distortion if you crank the drive a bit. My personal preference is to keep the drive dial at about 11 o'clock and use another distortion pedal for a heavy sound while the Sansamp on its own just warms up the clean tone a bit. I haven't played without this pedal on since it arrived. On top of all of this, the DI out makes recording super easy. If your interface provides phantom power, you can use it to power the pedal as well. I haven't bothered fussing with micing my cabinet since I got this. Definitely recommended if either you do your own recordings or want a distorted bass sound that doesn't sound awful.

Perfect substitution for bass amp.
I purchased the SansAmp because the team I am working with has been moving steadily toward using IEM setup. This means no more dragging my bass amp with me, which isn't going to hurt my feelings. :) I did a fair bit of research and spoke to another bassist who had nothing but good things to say about this device. I really appreciate the flexibility in tone and functionality of this device. The fact I can use both active and passive basses is another great benefit. The support from Tech 21 is also great. I had some questions and I felt a call would be more efficient and they were more than happy to chat with me. I definitely recommend this product.

Poor packaging for shipping
When I received this pedal it was just thrown in an empty box with no additional packaging to prevent it from moving around during shipping. As a result when I received the pedal the footswitch was not working properly. Once I did a little online research i decided to try and take it apart and see what was going on, there is a little spring that connects to the footswitch button that had become disloged ( probably do to the poor packaging used for shipping). Using a screwdriver I was able to repair the pedal and it works great now
