Garfield Cat Litter All Natural, Fast Clumping, Perfect for Multi-Cat Homes, Tiny Grains, 15 lb, Golden Swirls, 15 lb.

After comparing cat litter ratings here on Amazon, I ordered the Garfield tiny grains (green bag) three-pack. Its fifteen total pounds is triple what I paid for the last brand we used, but we needed it in a hurry. Ten days later, I remain surprised at its quality! First of all, neither cat complained even when they had to stay in a two-room area during guests. (Funny how they'll hang out peacefully until the door closes. Nonetheless, no "presents" when the guests left.) Nor have they complained about using their other litter box. Second: Two cats, no smell over a one-day period. (One could almost forget to clean it.) Three: OH HOW IT'S SOLID. There is NO crumbling during scooping, and it doesn't stick to the plastic box. The cats don't seem to be burying their waste; but running the raked and slotted scooper isn't bringing up anything but individual clumps. There are a few largish, one-clump pieces of absorbed urine each time I clean, not lots of broken Play-doh consistent chunks. Four: Clumping be darned, IT FLUSHED WITH NO PROBLEMS. On autopilot the first time I cleaned it, I'd dumped it into the toilet. It didn't go down when I flushed. Flushed myself (and not wanting to call the plumber) I grabbed the bag and saw that one needs to wait a few minutes. I did. When I went back, it looked like powder. It went right down. Drawbacks: (1) Cost-prohibitive at triple what I was paying for another, name-brand, clumping, flushable litter (about $6 for a 14-lb jug). (a) Because it's so absorbent, I'm flushing more of it each time I clean the box, so it's depleting faster than the other - I'll need to replenish sooner. (2) The only local store carrying it now is a big-box in which I haven't shopped for over fifteen years (their employees could stand to be treated better...). Uh, I think that's it. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I washed out the previous boxes and used a full bag in each of two litter boxes shared by two cats with a bag to spare. I know that one normally does a gradual mix but with holiday chaos I forgot. Luckily, the cats didn't mind. The local store's clerk said they "didn't regularly stock" the clumping flushable litter I'd been buying from them (for the eighteen months they've been open). While I think she just didn't want to check, with the hordes of holiday shoppers, I wanted to escape. No time to order from the hardware store - Amazon came through. I wouldn't have spent the money without the other reviews, so thanks to all.

"Flushable" might be a little generous of a label, as this stuff does NOT break down if you let it soak for a few hours. The urine clumps super hard, which is fantastic for scooping and keeping your litter from stinking up from the clumps breaking apart during cleaning, but the bigger clumps are definitely a gamble to flush. The other problem I ran into isn't really a problem with the litter, but a compatibility issue with my youngest cat. The feces don't dry out as quickly as with other litters, so when she gets overzealous with burying her business, she basically shreds the feces and it's nearly impossible to get clean with a regular litter scoop. Thankfully, the grains of this litter are fine enough to where you can use a terrarium-style scoop such as Exo Terra Stainless Steel Scooper to get the little bits out and keep your litter from fouling up. This stuff is unscented but I haven't had any issues with odor and I'm in a pretty cramped living situation at the moment, so I'm impressed with its odor control (though the initial stink explosion is still as bad as you'd expect). I recommend this litter as its urine clumping is unmatched and odor control is good. Drawbacks are that the feces remain soft long enough to break down into very small pieces and the flushable aspect really depends on the size of the clump you're trying to flush since this stuff clumps HARD.

Interesting product. Comes in strange little bags; I'm not sure why they didn't just put it all in 1 bigger bag. It took approx 2 bags to fill it up my cat's jumbo litter box to a generous depth. *On the plus side* - GREAT for my cat's many respiratory issues; no clay, no perfume, and not the sort of substance that creates dust - Controls odors very well (I must admit I only clean the box 1x/week, and there's no smell with this litter) - Clumps very well - Finicky senior cat took to it quickly *On the minus side* - It gets statically charged. I can see some the tiny grains jumping off the plastic shovel when I scoop, and this is probably also why it TRACKS LIKE MAD out of my cat's plastic litter box.I don't know if it's sticking to her paws or if it generates enough static when she digs in it that it then sticks to her fur. However, the end result is that it tracks an impressive 2-3 cat-lengths beyond the edge of the box. I've been resisting getting a litter mat all these years, but I'll probably have to get one now if I want to continue to enjoy this litter. Or, perhaps the larger-grain variety is more inclined to stay put. *On the weird side* - It's a light cream color, so dark brown kitty poops really stick out against this litter. The visual effect is...weird--especially when several poops have collected in the box. At least the pee "bricks" aren't yellow; they remain cream-colored. TIP: Get a litter scoop with tiny slats so you'll be able to catch all the tiny little flecks of poop that have surely always been in your litter box before, but that you couldn't really see against the gray color of most litters - What on earth is it made of?? It's supposed to be plant-based, but I scoured the website & I still don't know what this stuff actually *is*!
