Perfect for the minimalist kitchen
This is the perfect set for a small, minimalist kitchen. This has all the right sizes of cookware for the person that want's just the basics. I purchased this set as I intended to slowly rid my kitchen of non-stick cookware. After purchasing this set, I got rid of everything else. Now I just have this set, one large SS Kitchenaid skillet, and a double dutch cast iron oven/skillet set. That is it for a family of 5. It took some getting used to, but with a bit of practice, you can learn to cook without non-stick! The difference between the skillet included in this set and the one we purchased separately is the size as well as the weight. This one works well for eggs, fish, etc. I found the heavier bottomed Kitchenaid worked better for meat sauces and curries. You have to experiment a bit and see what works for you. But for a quick and easy fix or starter kitchen, I would definetely recommend this set.

Fantastic pan set for people just starting out
I bought these for a friend who had no good pans in their kitchen. I had a set of these for 15 years that I still use and still look good if you keep them clean with Bar Keepers Friend. They can get extremely hot on the side of the pan because this is a single ply Steel. The base has the triple layer Steel in order to distribute Heat evenly. Since the patent on all-clads triple clad construction expired a few years back, Cuisinart and a lot of the other manufacturers have prodiced their own triple clad pans. Personally, I prefer the triple clad over these pans but they do cost more. The triple clad cuisinart's are considered second only to the original All-clad pans. I own both the All-clad and the Cuisinart and I cannot tell a difference between the two. To me, this means that the Cuisinart is a far better option then the All-Clad.These are great pans to buy a college student or new homeowner to get started without breaking the bank.

Excellent value, even 9 years later
I bought this set of Cuisinart Chef's Classic pans in late 2004, when outfitting my first non-cheapo 'real adult' kitchen. The choice of Cuisinart was based on wide-spread public recommendations as a price-competitive alternative to AllClad. I also bought Calphalon Pro non-stick pans (for eggs/cheese), Le Creuset dutch ovens, and bought or inherited antique & modern cast-iron pans and griddles.Over the intervening 9 years since I bought most of the above: the Calphalon's 'tried' but have all been replaced (non-stick wore off). And of course the cast-iron soldiers on; as does the iron & enamel-based Le Creuset.:D As to the Cuisinart, they likewise are still exellent pans! They've seen daily use, daily trips to the dishwasher, and nothing in in the way of coddling (unlike the Calphalons :P).I've had absolutely no complaints about the pans:The integrated copper disk on the bottom makes them extremely even-heating.And the steel interior makes for simple cleanup and incredible toughness (try using SOS pads on your Calphalon or other non-stick pans :P). No the copper doesn't wrap all the way around the pan. But to be honest, I have a few AllClads and I can't really tell any functional cooking difference between the Cuisinart and the AllClads. :DThe Cuisinarts also have well-thought-out and functional design features: The handle design keeps the cool; short of putting the handle directly in the draft of the burner, or simmering for long periods of time, the handles generally stay cool enough to handle without a hotpad. The rolled edges are almost dripless. And the lid fit to pan is almost perfect: They don't lock, but steam doesn't escape while cooking unless you pick up the lid.The steel inner surface isn't technically "non-stick", but functionaly, with a suitable fat or oil, these pans are wonderfully non-stick for most of my uses. About the only time I reach for a Calphalon is when I have something _brutally_ sticky. Other than that, it's often a toss up between whether I use Cuisinart steel or the 'classic non-stick' the old cast-iron.I'd buy another of these pans in a heartbeat. Unfortunately nothing short of being run over by a truck looks likely to make me need to buy new ones. :) My son will probably get these! One other point: It's amazingly refreshing that this is a product - nine years later - that is still available in it's original form. 99% of the other non-music, non-video, non-literature, purchases I made in 2004 have been off the market, worn-out/broken, or completely obsoleted for the better part of a decade! It's nice to know that quality design can still be marketed without the need for the vendor to continually shuffle in 'new' models to replace the old. :)

It looks like pieces of the coating came off
I was excited to get these because I have bought other Cuisinart Stainless Steel pots before. I used the medium pot to boil some potatoes and it did something to the bottom of the pain. It looks like pieces of the coating came off. (See picture). Have you ever seen this happen from boiling potatoes? I'm still not sure exactly what this is. When I try to scrub it, nothing happens. It doesn't feel like anything either. Just thought anyone thinking of buying this should be aware.

These Do What They Do Well
I'm done with so-called high-end cookware. I threw a whole set of Earthpans in the trash when these arrived at my house. No, these are not non-stick, but neither are non-stick pans after a couple weeks. These won't pit like aluminum. These heat evenly and hold heat well. These are durable; like military grade durable. They probably won't keep their mirror finish, and they take some elbow grease to clean if you burn them, but they do come clean and will keep coming clean for years without leaching anything toxic into your food. Buy some Barkeepers Friend scouring powder (I wouldn't use anything else) and clean-up is a cinch. Sometimes simple is best. These may be the last pans I buy. Be aware that like any commercial pan, these are not designed to protect people from their own stupidity. The lids get hot. The small handles on the stockpot get hot. The long handles are long enough that they stay cool enough to touch, but still deserve respect. When you heat up metal, it gets hot. Trust me... you'll only need to be reminded once and then you'll remember to grab a towel.

Affordable pans but hard to clean
These are a good set of pans, with a nice mix of sizes and volumes for a really good price from a reputable company. However, they are just hard to clean.

This set was bought after getting some pieces from this series second hand, the quality is fantastic, the measurement inscribed at the sides is very helpful, it has a good weight...
