It is reusable, provides positive retention and does not require special tools. Lock nuts help you avoid accidental damage to your rifle during muzzle device installation. Our lock nuts are designed to conceal and protect the barrel just behind the muzzle. The maximum barrel diameter is 0.75". These lock nuts are designed to minimize stress on your firearm during leveling (clocking) and installation of your muzzle device. In the photos you can see that when tightening the lock nut and the muzzle device the net torque on the barrel is near zero, unlike shims and crush washers which involve intense torque on the barrel and can require the barrel be secured in a vise.
