A Beginner instrument.
In summary I can write that this is a very basic synthesizer, it has no action to it, it only has 61 keys, the keys feel cheap, and it also doesn't have great speakers. Plus not having a headphone jack can be annoying but not way to much in that the speakers are not loud enough to annoy neighbors unless you are in an apartment or have a room-mate. This is a try it piano, it basically lets you try and see if you want to play piano or not, it is not very expensive and can always be resold at not much of a loss. Once you learn a decent bit on this piano and want to move on you most certainly will have to as you can not play really publicly but you can around friends they won't mind the quality of the sound, also this 40$ piece of experience has helped me a great bit and I believe it could help you as well, assuming you are a person who really wants to play piano, but is not sure you will like it or will have the ability or talent to fully play a more expensive one. Since I have bought the piano I have learned many songs and have just recently ordered a nicer digital piano which I will be reviewing sometime next week.I really would recommend this to any un-experienced piano player. You can always buy a more expensive piano later.Well worth the money to figure out that I would like to learn the piano and learn seven full songs along the way!

Keyboard without instructions for singing
It said that this particular keyboard had songs and tunes and how to sing them; sort of beginners training. I did not find in this one as i bought it used and no booklets. Which I am sure i can get from the website. I am absolutely a beginner and needed these. Condition wasn't pristine, but it plays and no faults in that.

no good, a ...
okay this keyboard does not give you the name of the songs your are playing and the eduation suite is [bad] b/c it doesn't teach you how to play your own songs. in fact you can't even learnto play the songs programed ithe computer b/c the keys go so incredibly fast.

Great keyboard for the price.
Very good keyboard for the price, especially for those still learning. Some interesting sounds, voices and instruments but mostly just a very decent keyboard. I would recommend it for beginners if you want to learn without spending a fortune. I had mine for several years now and it works perfectly.

great keyboard for beginners
my brother got this keyboard for his birthday about 7 or 8 years ago, since then hes moved on from it and i started to use it :) having no real expertise on keyboard i found this worked great and is very easy to navigate around. it still works great to this day and although it does lack a few things, for example i would more like a keyboard with a bit more voices, its still very nice to use.Considering how long this has lasted our family, and how easy it is to use for beginners (i found the lesson modes really quite helpful) i would definitely recommend it

Just what I needed to learn to play the piano!
What a great keyboard! I am learning to play the piano in my spare time! The built-in lessons really work. I am learning at my own pace. I played back all 100 songs and put a star by the songs I want to learn. There are a lot of great songs built in. By the time I get through all of them I should be able to read music and play the piano very well. I am on the 5th song and it is easier with each new song I learn. I love lesson #2 for the right and left hand. You have to hit the right keys for the keyboard to work and after finishing the song the keyboard tells you how well you did.. either "OK", "Good", "Very Good", or "Excellent!" There are all kinds of voices, styles, songs and the DJ mode that make it fun and entertaining. I haven't learned all of it yet. I also like the fact that the keyboard is very portable so that I can take it places easily. I ordered the keyboard with a stand and AC adapter which are essentials. This keyboard is not touch sensitive which I think makes it easier to learn. The only small complaint is that the song book does not have the words to the songs in it which I have complained to Yamaha about. The PSR-170 is an affordable, versatile, quality product. I would buy it again without hesitation.
