I love this sound mixer so much better than the standard white-noise machines which, while they give you a choice of many different sounds, you can only ever play one at once. This one allows you to mix as many sounds as you want (or only one if you prefer!) for a much more natural ambience.I bought one of these years ago and loved it, but my daughter also loved it so much I ended up giving it to her. I bought this one as a replacement, and I like it even better! The only thing I didn't like about the old one was the "flute" sound was too repetitive and limited in range. The flute on this one is much improved and the loop is now undetectable. I like to mix it in at relatively low volume with crickets, wind, rain, waves and thunder to give myself a nice "haunted woodland" atmosphere to sleep in. (What can I say? I think haunted woodlands are cool!)Unlike the old model it also has the option of a night-light in several soothing colors and a snooze timer that will shut it off after 30, 60, or 90 minutes. I don't use either of these functions but I thought I'd mention them in case they might appeal to others.Since these are electronic sounds they do "loop," but even when playing just a single sound, the loop is hard to notice. Since the length of each sound is different, mixing several sounds makes the loop of any one of them completely undetectable.You've probably already noticed this is one of the more expensive white-noise machines on the market, but good sleep is priceless, and this sound mixer is worth every penny - so much so that I literally bought it twice!

The fact that you can select from a choice of settings to create and then balance out a complete soundscape is fantastic. The light option with choices of colors with varying intensity is great ambience as well. I previously had a sound soother that I had to return. My main setting to fall asleep is a rain and a thunderstorm. On the previous model the overall sound was good but the background rain was too low and the thunder was blasting in comparison. On the Brookstone, I dialed in the amount of rain that I wanted, and then brought up just a bit of thunder. The result reminded me of a rainstorm with rolling thunder in the background. This and the cool under cab lighting was perfect for a blissful night of sleep. The only thing that I would have liked would be headphone and a line out jacks to hook up a small sub for a little more bottom end, but as is, I am very satisfied. Not the cheapest sounds soother, but your choice of customizing the sound choices and the intensity of them with the sliders is huge!! No other sound soother that I know of will offer this.

The ability to adjust and mix allows almost infinite combinations. I would have given a solid 5/5, but the cricket sound is a bit to consistent and if it is too loud just sounds like grinding machinery. But turned down a bit and mixed with other sounds, and it is just another layer of pleasant sounds. My wife loves it.

I love that there are so many combination possibilities! It’s adorable and matches well with my decor, plus it is small enough to put on my windowsill (perfect for blocking out any outside sounds).

Speakers are a little on the cheapie-side but I find setting it on a sock acts as a sort of pop-filter. Despite that, this has got everything: a DJ-worthy mixer where you can combine 9 different sounds to your heart's content. Has got 7 LED color options, though I'm not sure what they really add to the experience. Different sound volume options, which I like since sometimes the knobs are set just right but I'd like it a bit quieter or louder. It also has some timing options but I don't use these either, I just leave it on at night. There aren't many whitenoise-mixers like this, probably explaining why the price goes up every time I check this out.Mostly, you're buying this for the option to mix different sounds. Because maybe you're in a mood for rain and thunder, another night you might want firecrackling a crickets, another just the fan-noise. It gives you options, is what's important.Thumbs up, if you can get it at a normal price

Great concept, but could be better. I love being able to mix the different sounds, but the sounds aren't very accurate and you can hear the loop. (flute has a "rattle" when it reaches to the end of loop so it's very noticeable.) Mixing several sounds can help cover that up.Light feature is nice, but I never use it because you have to cycle through all the colors to get to the one you want and then cycle through remaining colors in the loop to turn it off. It would've have been a nice feature to remember your color option when turned on/off.I wouldn't pay the full price for this. Luckily I got mine on special, so I'm opting to keep it because of the mixer feature. Hoping another becomes available with more accurate sounds.

This is what I expected, easy to use, it's quality and it's a beautiful box....

I love the thunder and rain settings. The crickets chirping needs a bigger loop but all in all I liked this product.
