I really enjoyed this book. It's given me a whole new way to pray, new images of God to ponder as I pray, new ways to experience creation and to thank God for making me a part of it. New ways to look at other people, at my place in time and space. And what made it really great is that it was a fun read, one I'm about to start all over, this time more slowly with putting the prayer exercises into practice. Check it out!

Excellent book if one is looking for a short, descriptive compilation of various forms of prayer and the value of Centering prayer that can make this prayer discipline realistically achievable for anyone. While many other books delve into the prayer disciplines in greater depth, this book decomplicates verbal and nonverbal communication with God providing simple analogies that open one eyes to the gift of prayer. As one delves more deeply into prayer and, in particular, centering prayer, I would recommend reading Fr. Thomas Keating and other authors that delve more deeply into the life of prayer through both theology and practice. Forty Days to a Closer Walk with God is an additional practical resource that one might enjoy.

This is an interesting book for anyone serious to use Ignatian spirituality. I enjoyed it so much via my kindle I am buying hard copy for family and friends. There are peaceful and practical examples to use and process in time of stress or if you just want an evening review of your daily thoughts.I need this book by my bedside for a blessedl sleep.

This is an awesome book that make me see prayer from another perspective and more easily to follow up.

He has some very good ideas which I can incorporate into my prayer life. I would recommend reading this book.

I loved this book. For once I’m glad I bought a book on kindle – as I can see myself going back to it regularly in quiet moments.It’s helpful to understand a little about Gary Jansen. He’s a world renowned editor of religious and inspirational books for Random House USA, so he knows his stuff.... but it’s his honesty and vulnerability that makes this book so special. He also helps that he writes like an angel.The book has a very informative section on different ways of prayers – with simple explanations and examples but what really appeals to me are his exercises for encountering God. To them he brings his own doubts, vulnerabilities and imagination to help the reader to look at the world in a different way. I loved the exercise on past, present, future which includes a large building made of glass and a glass elevator that takes off into space to give us a bird’s eye view of our reality.I hate the hackneyed way authors or publishers allege a book can change your life. It’s possible though that this is one of those very rare books that deserve this accolade.

An interesting and thought provoking book on prayer which I feel should be read and re-read for reference rather than read once then forgotten having been "box ticked". As in all things worthwhile some effort from the reader will be required in the application of its exercises.

Surprised at how much I've enjoyed reading this kindle download.I was given the money to download and did so but didn't really want to start reading.Because I didn't want to disappoint my friend I started to read and have not been disappointed.Thank you Gary Jansen.

I have not finished it yet, but I like it very much so far.The author writes about seirous things with a sense of humour, which makes it easier for the reader to understand and apply his advice.Highly recommendable.
