Quality at an affordable price, but not top shelf.
I bought this set to jerry rig into fishing pole holders at the pier. Did not work for that purpose, but they are good clamps and I've had more of these. Again, I really did not need a pair, but there seemed to be no way to buy just one that I saw. I am very pleased by these clamps. They have a very positive and sturdy mechanism, and they develop more clamping pressure than those I've used in the past. They hold their set clamping force without the gradual slippage. All moving parts that are involved in producing and holding the clamping pressure are made from fairly heavy metal. The actual handles are plastic, and the actual clamping jaws seem to be made from a fiber-reinforced plastic of some sort, which are heavier built and apparently sturdier than other ones. The slip-on pads on the jaws are not the greatest, but they seem to do the job well enough. PRO: 1. Price per foot. 2. Brand. 3. Reputation. CON: 1. Lacks some of the 'kool' features a more expensive set would have. 2. Can't buy just one. 3. Plastic can snap over the years, but that plastic keeps the price down. OTHER: BUY if you want reliable product. DON'T BUY if you are wanting top shelf product, that'll cost ya more $$.

Yes there are cheaper brands. Buy this anyway.
These clamps are great. Easy to use and they don't break. You only need one hand to clamp them, leaving your other hand free to line up the pieces. Great when you are working on projects alone. Not just for gluing stuff, these can give you extra hands while making decks, furniture, etc. You can level a board and then lock it in place, then go back and secure it with screws. Yes, you can buy some that look almost identical from other manufacturers for much less money, but these don't break. IE - I bought 6 HF clamps a few years ago, but they ALL broke in the first 30 seconds of use - not exaggerating. You will probably buy more of these, but only because they are so useful, not because they break. My oldest Irwin Quick clamps are 15+ yrs old and still working great. Only think to avoid is leaving them outside in the rain all week, as they will rust if you do, and then they don't work very well (but you can wire brush them back to life)

Definitely a budget item
So I picked up 2-24โ Irwin quick grip clamps for a larger project that needed clamping and my need for a set this size is infrequent. I bought this on cost alone. I do own another smaller size of another brand. Everything about these scream cheap and poorly made. They worked and I will get some use out of them, but if you need serious clamps or regular use then pay more and get more. I have a few other Irwin products that are not cheesy, so l was kind of disappointed. I had read the reviews however, so suspected the quality might be low. Believe those that report issues. Those that give glowing reviews must not have anything to compare it to. I am giving it a 4 start because it was less expensive and did the job. If I would have paid the supposed โlist priceโ this would be a 2 star review.

Very solid
I was hesitant for a long time to buy these due to the price, but I kept encountering things where the spreader feature would have been useful, and I eventually took the plunge. Now that I have them in my hands, the price seems much more justified. These are much sturdier that the old 12" and 18" versions which I have a number of. The bar is thicker, with an I-beam profile, and the plastic parts are made with a much stronger type of plastic. The spreader capability is as useful as I imagined, and is easy to use. I was momentarily confused about how it worked though: rather than taking each piece off and flipping it, you just move the fixed arm to the other end of the bar. This is easily done, yet it shows no tendency to come loose on its own--well done Irwin. An additional nicety is that the pad on the fixed arm has a switch on it: it can either be locked parallel to the other pad, or you can allow it to pivot a small amount in either direction, giving a better grip when what you're clamping isn't perfectly square. Having tried them, I'll probably have to get at least one more pair.

Invaluable tool
I bought this to help in the replacement of slings on our patio chairs. The chairs had two steel spreader bars that were nearly impossible to put back in after the new slings were put in the side rails. This reversible clamp gradually pushed the two sides apart allowing the bars to seat into their mounting holes. Swapping the end to become a clamp was easy and was useful to pull the seat frame in alignment with the chair base and hold it in place so I could put the hardware back in. Incredible little tool with great versatility. The hard rubber grips helped keep things in place, but weren't so soft they slipped around.
