Jump started my completely dead battery
I am an Amazon power-buyer (ie. buy almost everything on Amazon), but I rarely review anything (just don't have time, not with that much stuff.)Had to come leave a review today. A week and a half ago I took the classic car I recently got from my dad out for a drive. It's a 1959 Italian car with unlabeled switches and knobs . It was getting dark before we could get home and I couldn't figure out which knob or switch was for the headlights. A call to my dad couldn't determine it either (he just never drove it after dark). So we got home and I put it away. I didn't realize I'd accidentally turned on and left on the windshield wiper switch (especially since off turns out to be the up position. Great.)Today, I tried to start the car to take it out for a weekly drive to keep everything functioning. I turned the key halfway to get the fuel pump going and heard nothing. Not a good sign. I have a Black and Decker Bench Charger, but I hadn't hooked it up this week (like an idiot). I tried hooking it up immediately, but the B&D didn't recognize it. I found the B&D manual that if the battery is depleted below 2% it wouldn't recognize the battery (So I'd really killed my poor battery).I was ready to call in a roadside assistance claim to jump the car in my garage. We were about to remove the battery and take it to a shop to recharge, but removing and reseating it is a serious pain (tucked into the side in the tiny trunk). But my husband called our mechanic to see what he suggested. He mentioned getting a portable jump starter. Husband mentioned we already had one for each of our cars. We have three different versions (all Rugged Geek) bought over the years, and we've used them a few times to great success, but this time it was a completely dead battery that even the B&D didn't recognize.I attached the clamps and at first there was no indication it was finding the battery. Then I pushed the Boost button, the indicator went green and suddenly my windshield wipers turned on. (Good sign, but I got those things off quickly once I discovered up was off. Grrr.) The car started right up. I drove around for about half an hour and then got it onto the B&D bench charger to charge up the rest of the way.It hadn't occurred to me that if the B&D couldn't handle the recharge from dead that the Rugged Geek handheld would be able to do it. It did! And it still shows 100% charge. Speaking of which... all of the RG chargers hold their power for many many months without having to be plugged in. I think I charge them about twice a year and they're always full of power waiting to be needed. Best purchase for our cars. And as I said, we have a version of this product in all of our cars. Can't recommend them highly enough.

works well
This is one rugged looking outfit. Thick rubber at the corners, no screen to get cracked, four led's tell you everything about the unit's charge level. And when you pick it up it even feels rugged. I used it today to jump start my work truck after I forgot to turn the headlights off. I know, I know, it's old school...but it's what I have to drive. This jump starter never missed a beat, it cranked the engine quite fast and had it started in a second or two. The charge level was still at 100% afterwards. I really don't know what else I can say about it. If you like jump-starters with fancy lcd displays that must be protected from abuse you'll be disappointed with this, but if you want a rugged jump-starter that can survive a bit of rough treatment and crank a large engine this is probably right up your alley. There are more powerful jump-starters on the market, but unless your vehicle has a monster sized engine this one is all you'll need.edit 4-1-2022Today I used this beast to jump start a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria with a completely dead battery. At first I tried it without pushing the boost button, but not even a click when turning the key. Then I used the boost and the old Crown Vic came to life in a second or two. Even with a dead battery this thing cranked it over like a brand new car. I'm impressed with this little gem. To have something this small pack the punch it does is inspiring.

Solid construction, everything included, worked immediately
I looked at a lot of these portable jump starters and am glad I finally found the Rugged Geek version. I wanted to try to stay away from the Chinese-manufactured ones, and while this one is also made in China, at least the company is from the U.S/Canada. Starting with unboxing - product came in a very nice softshell case which even had a loop for easy carrying. Inside, you have the battery, jumper cables, USB chargers and wall adapter, and 12V cigarette lighter adapter. I really liked that the wall adapter and USB cables were included - most of the Chinese ones did not have this. The flap that covers the battery is also a nice touch. Now the most important part - does it actually work? I used this on my completely dead Mustang (4.6L V8) 12V battery. I got the green flashing light, but not the solid green, which indicated completely dead. Simply pressing the boost button switched the green light over to solid. Went to start the car, and it immediately started. Still showing 4 bars on the battery life after this, which is a good sign.My only suggestion for improvement would be to put a battery percentage instead of just the bars, so you know exactly how much you've got left. I can see this staying in the car or for use on road trips or even camping trips where multiple phones need to be charged. Highly recommend!

Very powerful power station and portable jump starter!
The media could not be loaded. Love the new design! We keep one of these Rugged Geek batteries in both of our cars, boat, motorcycle and garage. I have used it to jump my car and lawnmower. They hold a charge for a really long time as well. I was at a golf course parking lot when I used it the first time. An interior light was left on, so the battery was dead when we came back. I was parked in a place that didn't have room for another vehicle, so a standard set of jumper cables wouldn't have reached by a long shot. That didn't matter anyway because I had a Rugged Geek portable battery in the back compartment of my SUV. I've been a fan ever since! We've used them to recharge our phones at Disneyland as well. Now my kids ask to use them all the time! They just keep making them better and more powerful. This RG3000 HD is a beast!
