Create Your Own Online Store in a Weekend

A 5-star gem
Great book! Tons of information including many, many resources. One of the best books I've read on this subject. Unfortunately, many books I've purchased on this subject were poorly disguised "advertisements" for an online course or consulting practice, etc. Clearly, the author has done her research and gives step-by-step instructions on how to begin what can be a very complicated and technically difficult process. Highly recommended!

Great Basic Info
Answers many questions and debunks pesky myths about online selling. Great brainstorming exercises. That said, it takes more than a long weekend to set up an online store for the first time but provides a weekend's worth of much-needed info in one organized space.

A very good way to start the process of online selling!
Creating the store "in a weekend" might be a little optimistic for some fledgling entrepreneurs. A catchy title sells books! The author provides so many helpful resources which should be researched that one could fall prey to analysis paralysis. That said, the book is an excellent way to kick start the process of putting together the elements of an online retail operation which is a glove fit for the individual seeking it. If every step were followed exactly as the author suggests them success would be a very likely result. Of the books I have read on this topic, this is certainly a good one, quite complete; it furnishes plenty of food for thought but sadly not the capital required.

Based on a Deceptive Promise
“What this book will do for you” …. “Within just days, you'll have your own online store and be taking payments online ….”The problem with this kind of promise (it really is a promise/guarantee, regardless of whether the author recognizes it as such) is that it misleads people into thinking that “making money online” is easier than it actually is. As such, this kind of promise is deceptive.Yes, anyone can quickly put up an online store. But making money with that store (“taking payments”) is quite another matter. Before that happens, you must first attract enough qualified traffic to your store (typically only a relatively small percentage of visitors actually buys anything). And you must attract that traffic in a way that is cost-effective, in terms of both time and money. This is not easy. Many have tried and many have failed. Lady Luck may or may not smile upon you.If you aspire to sell online, you might be better off to first read in some detail about the kind of marketing that is typically required to drive a profitable online venture. Google “why most online stores fail” and read blogs by people describing the challenges of making money online. Then—and only then—if you feel up to the task, buy this book.

Too simple. No real info that your couldn't figure out yourself with little effort. I did get it at a discount, so it was probably worth the $.99.

Another Classic WordPress book from Alannah Moore
Having bought and devoured Alannah Moore's first two WordPress books, I pre-ordered this book as soon as I read of its availability. This book matches her first two books in having a perfect balance between information and design, transferring her knowledge in the most accessible of writing styles. For anyone interested in setting up an online store, look no further. Perfect!

A great book for anyone opening their first online store
Fantastic book: very detailed, very well presented, very practical. It covers a vast range of web solution for online stores (not just Wordpress). There are comparison tables between the various options. I love this book. A must for anyone wanting to open their first online store.

Probably a little overpriced @ £13
Great for a someone starting to use wordpress, a nice overview of what can be done. Although while waiting for the book to be delivered I had the oppertunity to 'play around' with wordpress and found it almost as easy to understand without the use of this book. That being said the later chapters and very useful. Real world example of sites for hosting, purchasing website names etc are a great help when first starting at looking to build a website from scratch.

This is a good book if you are looking for a broad overview of how to setup a web store in a weekend (using various Wordpress based websites). However if you're looking for a detailed manual / guide to using Wordpress then is this is not for you - despite the title the book only devotes one chapter to using Wordpress setup (about 20 pages) as you can imagine this it's high level and of little value.
