SalewaMS Mountain Trainer Mid Gore-TEX Men's Trekking & hiking boots

So, i am usually a Mammut kind of guy but thought I would try another brand. I consider myself as an "intermediate" Hiker/climber so this review will be based from my activity.So, out of the box i completed a fairly technical 15.5 mile hike up and down cliff edges and coastal paths (a section of South West coast path) to break them in and i can say overall i am pleased with this boot, but there are some drawbacks to them. I will start with the positives, the boot looks purposeful, is very waterproof and warm (torrential rain and 40mph headwind for most of the hike) and the boots held up well and best of all NO BLISTERS! The boot is relatively comfortable too initially. The stiff sole helped on the steep climbs and descents and the lacing system held my feet in place. I take a 10.5 but bought an 11 and had plenty of room available.So, the bad bits: The boot feels a little heavy and is very stiff but, but i am still breaking them in. The sole feels like you are walking with boards under your feet and as a result the underside of my feet felt tender and a little bruised the day after. The boot had little to no grip across wet rocks and found myself slipping a fair bit. The lacing system is brilliant, but fiddly, when putting the boots on you catch the laces in the wrong eyelets which was frustrating.I will try and remember to update my review after a few more hikes, hopefully drier conditions but overall i am pleased with the boot and will try some inserts to ease up the feel of bruising. I would recommend if you do a mixture of technical mountains and occasional sunday stroll, but if you are a sunday stroll walker i would not recommend these for you. I feel my crampons will work well with these boots also for the alpine climbs.

Fits well for half a size bigger than usual, but that's standard on most boots. The bottom is rock solid, I gave heared moaning about that on reviews but I for one see it as a good thing considering you don't feel sharp rock edges dig in the bottom, and they provide spider man type grip, I have never experienced grip like it to be honest, wet rocks are like sand paper to these. Comfort, well if you want a hard boot that in my opinion is geared more towards scrambling (but still suitable for long walks) then hard bottoms are the price you pay, but that doesn't make them uncomfortable, they just don't have much bend in them, but they have only been worn once for a 15km hike. They were put through their paces though, weather was crap, I through every terrain at them, even got them covered in knee high mud too, gutted as they were brand new but that's what testing them is all about, a few puddles later they looked brand new again. Not very warm, so wear thicker socks, problem solved, they are boots not gloves lol. Honestly love them and can see these being in my life a long time

Da ich mit Salewa bisher ausschließlich gute Erfahrungen gemacht habe und meine alten Wanderschuhe sich dem Ende zuneigten, habe ich mir den Mountain Trainer Anfang des Jahres geholt. Nach 220km durch Irland mit 15kg Gepäck kann ich nun sagen, dass der Schuh für mich die perfekte Wahl ist.Trotz relativ kurzem Einlaufen (20-30km) war ich auf dieser Tour der Einzige, der komplett blasenfrei geblieben ist trotz teilweise unwegsamen Gelände sowie nassen, tiefem Boden. Das ist der zweite positive Aspekt des Schuhs: Meine Füße blieben komplett trocken, egal ob der Schuh mal komplett im Morast versank, man einen Bach überquerte oder es schlichtweg den ganzen Tag geregnet hat. Der Schuh weist nach der Tour selbst an der Sohle kaum Gebrauchsspuren auf.Der Tragekomfort ist ebenfalls eine Nummer für sich. Man hat zu jeder Zeit perfekten Halt, rutscht nicht im Schuh herum und die Füße meckern selbst nach 35km mit Gepäck nur bedingt. Einzig die Schnürsenkel wollen ohne vernünftigen Doppelknoten nicht so recht halten und bei längeren Asphaltstrecken meldet sich etwas der Fußballen, aber da ging es meinen Kollegen mit Meindl, Lowa etc... auch nicht anders.Ein Schuh, mit dem ich vollends zufrieden bin und den ich mittlerweile (der Part überrascht mich selbst) jedem Meindl Schuh vorziehen würde.

Ich versuche es kurz zu machen.- Kippelig- Nicht wasserdicht- recht hart aber nicht unkomfortabel- Fußbett im Fußgewölbe deutlich spürbar- Schnürsenkel schlechtDer Schuh ist stabil und macht einen robusten Eindruck und hat ein, für mich, ansprechendes Design.Die Sohle ist recht hart aber nicht unkomfortabel und gibt unmissverständlich Rückmeldung über den Untergrund. Vermutlich ist das im Hochgebirge wirklich wichtig und soll so sein. Wanderungen im moderaten Gelände oder auf Forstwegen werden aber etwas rumpelig. Zudem sorgt jeder etwas größere Stein für ein Kippen und Eindrehen des Schuhs, der mit einer sehr schmalen Sohle daher kommt. Hier frage ich mich dann wieder, ob ein kippeliger Schuh im Gebirge tatsächlich besser sein soll....Das Fußbett ist im Fußgewölbe sehr spürbar, wenn auch "im Betrieb" nicht unangenehm.Eine feste Schnürung im oberen Bereich ist mit den verbauten Schnürsenkeln nur schwer möglich. Ohne Doppelknoten hält zudem keine Schleife.Die größte Enttäuschung kam beim Durchqueren einer nassen Wiese: Wassereinbruch am großen Zeh. Nicht von oben, sondern von vorne. Hier stellte sich dann endgültig die Frage - wozu GoreTex, wozu so viel mehr Geld für einen Schuh? Ich hatte vorher günstige McKinley. Auch die waren nicht wasserdicht, noch nicht mal wasserabweisend - obwohl Wasserdichtigkeit beworben. Aber aufgrund des günstigen Preises habe ich das damals aber akzeptiert.Daher dieses mal auch der Griff zum teureren Schuh. Und jetzt wurde ich auch hier enttäuscht. Möglicherweise ist es ein Material- oder Verarbeitungsfehler, da der andere Fuß trocken blieb - wir werden sehen.....Ich versuche über die Garantieabwicklung eine Einigung, sprich ein neues Paar zu erhalten. Wenn es dann wieder einen Wassereinbruch geben sollte, gehen sie generell zurück. Ich sehe nicht ein, so viel Geld für einen mit GoreTex ausgestatteten und mit "wasserdicht" beworbenen Schuh auszugeben, wenn 1 Minute Gehen auf einer nassen Wiese ausreicht, dass man nasse Füße bekommt.Für das Geld würde ich, bis hierher jedenfalls, diesen Schuh nicht empfehlen.Nachtrag: Schlechte Fertigung. Der linke Schuh ist nicht wasserdicht. Eine Minute nasse Wiese reichen schon. Und der rechte Schuh ist irgendwie vernäht, drückt dabei außen auf der Höhe des großen Gelenks des kleinen Zehs und man hat das Gefühl, dass der Fuß hier "überquillt". Zudem neigt gerade dieser Schuh dazu, immer nach außen wegzukippen, so dass man immer gegensteuern möchte. Beide Schuhe nebeneinander gestellt sieht man auch, dass die Nähte auf unterschiedlichen Höhen verlaufen.Bin hier voll enttäuscht. Ging dieser Schuh doch als Testsieger durch. Bei mir geht er als Verlierer wieder nach Hause, sprich zurück.
