Needs drivers for SP/DIF out but perfect after that
I had to search a bit to find the drivers to enable the SP/DIF output as the standard Windows 11 drivers only enabled the analogue output but once I found them it's been excellent. I have this connected to a cheap Aldi soundbar and it's working perfectly. Not sure if I can add a link to a review so I'll give you a Google search term "Usb To 5.1 External Sound Card PD550 CM6206LX Driver" will find the correct driver (I'm using v8.1.12.27).Once I installed that the Optical out started working and it's been flawless ever since.

Usually a good solid external sound card
This would have been a second purchase but the unit arrive with something rattling inside, in the middle of returning the unit since it does not work.I will however be looking to buy another one since the last one was very good (sold it with my last PC)

It works
I'm just using this to get 5.1 channel sound from my pc to an old home theatre amp that takes s/pdif. So the only connections I'm using are the usb and the s/pdif output. As such, it works.

No Linux support
Could only get it to work with stereo output on the S/PDIF.The mini disk that came with unit was actually for headphones, ie. wrong disk. and other web links I've seen are for MS Windows only. The CMedia web site does not have drivers, only a .pdf of the CH2606-LX data sheet, which the device uses.Currently using Linux Lite 4.8It is explicitly stated that Linux is support, but this does not appear to be true.

Works after finding the correct drivers.
Very old chips and pretty much unsupported by windows 10 and 11. Some games can't process the audio correctly.

useless
didn't create stereo.only output on one channel. useless

Not what it seems
The product title implies it’s good for 5.1 surround sound, but if you dig through the specs it’s only capable of producing stereo (left and right channels only) if you were wanting to connect it to an optical input of a digital receiver. Not recommend. Dodgy advertising.
