It takes a sick-o to find humor in this twisted hospital...yep, that's me!
IMO, Matt Holness is a comic genius, as are his illustrious mates who populate the episodes, but the degree of silliness and political incorrectness in this set would probably offend about 99% of the population of Earth. This may be the only area of my life in which I can claim to be in the 1%, so I'm going for it!

One of the funniest shows ever (Snuff Box comes close)
Unfortunately, this is only available in Region 2 and I'm in the US. I changed my mac just for this DVD and the darn thing kept switching back so I never go to watch the last episode (I rationed them out so that I could really savor them). It's a good enough copy but there are no extras and the show was six episodes long so a few real interviews and some out-takes would have been a nice addition.

So bizarre! But so great.
So bizarre! But so great. This is a fake behind the scenes of a fake show, with a lot of the fake show, and it's ridiculous and making fantastic fun of the ridiculous awful shows from a few decades before and egotistical filmmakers and Richard Ayoade is in it, what more do you need?Hinky fun and a too-obscure gem.

Worth A Region 2 DVD Player!
Bought a special DVD player just for this set. Love it and all the extras. What a hoot. I can't wait to show a few episodes to some "mundanes" who'll have a hard time figuring out what is going on. Fabulous show from a team of comic geniuses.

Overlooked Masterpeace
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace has so many layers of humour. While I think the "interviews" and the show itself is extremely funny, I also found myself laughing while thinking about the show afterwards. About Garth and Learners reasoning for doing this and that in the production, the possible conflicts between staff, the problems with ediding the show and so on.The extra materials on the DVD are probably the most brilliant thing ever. Watching the series with commentaries ON gives the whole Garth/Darkplace universe a whole new dimension of comedy. Some of the things they point out made me almost die of laughter. Deleted scenes, interviews and stuff that gives more filling to the concept are also very good. It's not a show for the mainstream audience. I really think that the audience who will enjoy Darkplace the most, are people with experience within filmmaking. And of course, have watched some stuff from the 80's.

Screams... so many screams. Great Series!
A great, superbly strange series. Every dumb horror trope is included here. It's equal parts hilarious and disturbing. This series was my introduction to Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry, and I've loved them ever since. You'll need a region 2 DVD player to watch this if you live in the states. Well worth the purchase.

HILARIOUS
I love British humor. What's great about this series is not only the elaborate fiction within a fiction of the characters of Garth Merenghi, Dean Lerner, etc., but the show itself. Its casual misogyny, bizarre premises and gratuitous action sequences make it a great parody of the 80's, while still being a fun show in its own right. There are a lot of bonus features, and they're great. I don't know if a Region 1 release exists, so make sure your DVD player can handle it!

ONE OF the best brit coms
Truly a masterpiece of hilarity! Can't believe that they never released this on NTSC/region 1, but if you can find a DVD/BR player that you can unlock to Region Free and if your TV can convert a PAL signal (as most better LEDs can) you can't do better than this awesome show. Such a shame it only got 6 episodes from Channel 4. The extras are very worth while watching as well! They did a great job putting this DVD together and it does not skimp on the extras. There is even an amusing booklet that was well thought out to tie this relase together to the DVD content. Truly a great package, as long as you can play it on this side of the pond!

An interesting watch
It's an 80s TV style SciFi/Horror set in a Hospital that may have it's own portal to hell...The style of story telling is that of a documentary, frequently cutting away to 'behind the scenes' style interviews with it's cast members commenting on the GENIUS involved in the show's making. As a fan of The Mighty Boosh I was pretty much ordered to watch it by friends because a lot of the actors involved in this later appeared in Mighty Boosh.

In my All-Time Top 5 comedys
This is a genius work of comedy. A wonderfully well observed spoof on both the 1980's Horror-Genre and 1980's TV shows. Like 'The A-Team' or 'Knight Rider' set in a hospital that's been built on top of a portal to hell! People being possessed, a madman trying to turn everyone into Apes, The ghost of Scottish Warriors seeking revenge for an insult, and The Boss wants the kept admin up to date!

Garth Marenghi's Dark Place: The Complete Series
What can I say? This show had been recommended to me by colleagues and other users of the excellent British Comedy Guide website (the BCG). It was first broadcast in the mid 2000s by Channel 4 and has become a bit of a cult hit ever since. I won't bore you with too much detail concerning the plot as it's clearly been explained a great number of times before, but rest assured, it's a work of genius - well, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace (GMD) is anyway. The extras on GMD are brilliant and I've watched most of them, which is a pretty rare feat for me.The only fly in the ointment regarding this box set is the insipid follow up, Man To Man With Dean Learner, which is pretty poor compared to its predecessor. Richard Ayoade portrays the playboy porn baron and publisher Dean Learner, who hosts a series of chat shows with Garth himself, aka Matthew Holness playing all of the roles. That said, the first episode which featured an interview with Garth Marenghi himself is excellent and I for one would pay good money to see his cancelled feature film, namely 'War Of The Wasps'.It's certainly worth a watch.

Great nutty ideas fall a little flat
I got this after watching clips of it (and the brilliant Look Around You, and other stuff) on YouTube. Sadly the series itself doesn't quite match up to the best bits online. It is occasionally very funny, and the ideas/premise are very good. But it is as trashy - and more so - as what it lampoons. A little too much so for me. If it was as consistently funny as the best bits, that'd lift it up. But it's not, alas, and so it mostly falls rather flat.

An underrated peice of TV gold.
I remember when I first saw Darkplace back around 2004 in my sisters flat and I'll never forget the twenty minute, laugher related, coughing fit I endured as I sat watching my first episode of this show. This show set the tone for many others that were to follow, weaving comedy and horror in a nostalgic 80's zero budget TV setting. With a cast of characters so dislikeable that you'll instantly love them and some frankly mental stories that blur the lines between mental and downright messed up you'll laugh until it hurts like I did.
