Not really. I would use a thick needle or toothpick. I don't think a fork or skewer would be pointed enough not to cause a large tear in the casing

Could I use this to prick baked potatoes?

No... For the love of all that is holy....... PLEASE do not use this on a potato. I used it for my potato and 3 days later I was hit by a bus. Haters will say it's unrelated.

I just received this little pricker today and I'm very impressed!!! It's extremely sharp, solidly built and takes up almost no space. I saw a similar item at a supply house on two days ago for literally triple the price I bought this for. I strongly recommend this little pricker!
