Not much more than a novelty
It looks cool, and it does throw sparks, but requires a LOT of work. And a tiny piece of sharp metal isn't the most comfortable thing to have to grip for any extended period. Especially in any inclement weather. Just make things easier on yourself and wear a Ferro rod and striker, or use the 90° spine on your knife. This might help in a pinch, but just prepare yourself to drop some F-bombs.

failed
I wanted this because it looks like a cool striker. it's not. it's too smoothed and rounded to dig into the fero rod enough to strike. I would suggest passing on this.

I would rather see a cheaper version that was just the Rod and the Striker, and then I can put it on my own cordage.
As far as sparking goes its great. But the day to day function of carrying is poor. The break away necklace part, seemed a handy way to use it easily, but I have had it come undone at least twice in just a few days. It is also really long, and I have a long torso already. I would rather see a cheaper version that was just the Rod and the Striker, and then I can put it on my own cordage.

Slick and nifty but not reliable
The lanyrard in really great! The ferrite rod is too small for my stubby hands. The striker is not able to work well with the short ferrite rod and very little if any sparks were produced. Don't waste your money and time on this product.

A Fantastic And Useful Ferro Rod and Necklace Combo!
This is my second purchase from Modern Outdoor Life and I'm just as happy with this Leicht Fire Starter Necklace as I am with the large Kräftig ferro rod. I like this necklace because it's not only a fantastic way to daily-carry a backup ferro rod, it's also quite stylish and easy to adjust. The two safety clasps will detach from each-other with a little prying and will allow you to shorten the paracord to the length that you would prefer. For me, I took about two inches off each end and burn the ends with a lighter to create the hardened cord so the two plastic caps won't slide off. Just snap them back together and your back in business. As for actual use, I have tried this unit out on a small cotton ball that had been caked in Vaseline. After removing the lite coating of black protectant, I was able to get the cotton ball lit after a few swipes on the small ferro rod. I do have big hands, so finding the easiest way to grip the necklace and rod was interesting at first, but not difficult. Don't expect a massive shower of sparks with this little ferro rod, you want to be prepared with your tinder, but you will get a good hot fire going in no-time.The provided scrapper works well and looks good around your neck (I've already had some positive complements on it just in the last few days) The one thing I would possibly change is to remove the teeth from the scrapper and provide a simple-sharp squared edge for scrapping. I can see the teeth digging into the ferro rod if this were to get used in excess over time and shorten the lifespan, but it would still take a very long time and it's not an issue at all..just an observation.I'm going to take this out to my property and give it a better review in a real-world settings. I'll update this in the near future with my findings and thank you Modern Outdoor Life for providing us with great looking products and very reasonable prices!

Cool Product - Questionable Connector
Does it work as a fire starter? Yes. But this doesn’t produce the the same spark throwing capability as a typical ferrocerium rod. The issue is the size. Surface area to be exact. It is what it is. Sure, it can throw some sparks but be ready to work more for them. I’m actually ok with that due to the form factor. The product does work and is 2nd level cool too.My issue is the connector. It needs to be bigger in order to tie off a small knot on the end of the paracord and better secure the cord to the connector. The connector also feels like it may wear out easily in a few months due to it being plastic that doesn’t feel robust to me.I doubled the paracord over at the tip and melted it together to help keep the paracord from slipping out. Looks crappy and I’ll have to come up with something else - like thinner paracord & tying w very m, very small knit.*Keep in mind, with the photo, I did this, not Uberleben.I highly encourage the company to improve, replace & ship the new connector out to existing customers of this product. Generally speaking, I really like Uberleben products.

Great necklace.
Very durable and strikes well. People always point out how cool it looks and are blown away when I show them it can make sparks too. I've used it to make a few campfires now; keep in mind it's a bit difficult to start a fire from sparks if you don't have the know-how. Otherwise, a very cool and useful necklace. I personally like my necklaces to be a bit tighter on the neck, and you can see I took off the clamp and tied a tightening system. Very easy and I'd suggest doing the same if you like adjustable necklaces. Many people ask if it's sharp and if it might stab my neck, but I've had no issues with it poking me. It's actually fairly dull, only sharp enough to strike the flint. I like the design and the paracord is durable, flint can be changed out as well if it were to run out. Waterproof of course, I never take it off. If you're looking for a cool, durable, and useful necklace, look no further.

Needs better striker
Love the concept. The ferro rod works perfectly with some of my other strikers, but the smooth striker that came with this seems to be too soft to produce good sparks, perhaps the serrated version works better. The striking edge gets very dull after only a couple strike attempts. Using the cord between your fingers as a handle and a good striker,it does throw a good shower of sparks for its size. I'd have no problem relying on this as a primary fire starting tool for casual trips to the woods.

Awesome Emergency Ferrocene Rod!
This an awesome emergency ferrocene rod! I have my primary fire kit and my backup fire kit with me when I am backpacking in the bush. However, if for some reason those 2 are unavailable for whatever reason, I always have this little guy on me for emergencies! Awesome piece of kit for any backpacker or bushcrafter out there! Highly recommended! Uberleben makes beautiful stuff!PS:I shortened it up a little by tying an Overhand Loop Knot at the top. However, if doing this be careful you do not strangle yourself when hiking! This allows my liquid filled map compass to hang below this piece of kit on a separate piece of cordage. My bear horn hangs above this piece of kit on yet another piece of cordage. This setup prevents the 3 items from banging into one another as they are all at different heights. Furthermore, this gives me modularity in my kit setup as I do not have to wear all 3 items if I only require 1 or 2 of them, since they are all on different pieces of cordage. Plus, a little extra cordage can never hurt.

Unable to get a fire started
I'm good and well practiced when it comes to starting fire with a fire steel and I have not been successful with this. Striker is not sharp enough and rod is too short. I would not buy again.

Don’t sweat 😓
The locking mechanism is bulky and cheap a**. It’s a matter of time till it gets unlocked and lost. I also noticed it accumulates a white layer powdery substance from my sweaty shirt while hiking, it’s like it’s dissolving, not a good location to have it on your neck if you will be sweating 😅

Works well if you use it correctly
I like that this is small and light weight. It is a bit awkward to use because of the small size and you must hold the striker at just the right angle to generate sparks. If you do get the angle right you can reliably generate good sparks.
