Well worth the money. It’s great to have another way of verifying coins that you have purchased. It showed up the same day as some coins that I had purchased and I was able to test it right out of the bag. The app is very user friendly and has all of the coins that I currently stock up on. The price of the pinger is about the same as buying one peace or Morgan dollar, and being sure that any of those purchases are legit makes it worth it.

This is a must have tools to easily and inexpensively test your precious metals. Couple this with an accurate scale; you don’t have to purchase a $1200 instrument. Very portable and can test any coin or 1 ounce bar in the field.

As described and easy to use. It is much easier than balancing on a finger tip, and produces better results. But the gadget is not a spring hinge -- it is a single piece of moulded plastic that you must bend. Hope it does not snap at bend point. Must be used in conjunction with other tools (calipers, scale, N52 handheld magnet or magnetic slide) - it will help identify fakes. I think it is very pricey.

I only wish I had purchased this pocket pinger sooner. If your a stacker you need this little device take it with you anytime you're looking at coins or bullion. It will save you time and money in the long run.

EDIT: I was finally able to make it work. I tried it on two other devices (another phone and a tablet) and it works on the second phone after I removed the phone case. Microphone quality and clearance obviously were the issue, so you might need to remove your phone case to make this work for you. Once I found the proper setup, it worked really well. I would have only bumped my rating to 4 stars, but before I even got around to editing this review I received a full refund offer from the seller, no questions asked. That level of service deserves the full 5 start rating.I bought this based on many positive reviews and YouTube videos demonstrating its successful use, despite the high price for what it is. I excused that since it includes the app. However, I have yet to have it work for me. All the videos I see are of it being used with specific coinage, usually an ASE or Morgan dollar, so maybe it does work for those.However, I wanted it for generic silver rounds, which it supposedly works with also. Except it doesn't. I tried it on rounds from 4 different mints purchased from 3 different reputable sources (an LCS that's been in business with a great reputation for over 50 years, and two of the well-known online bullion dealers), as well as on both the "pro" and "ping" settings, and they all gave the same result - only 1-3 matching peaks out of 5 (the number varies by test, not by round, meaning it doesn't give consistent results from test to test), and no duration data. Unless you're willing to believe that every round in my stack, from every mint and every seller, is fake, then this isn't working.

I have been a coin collector since the 1960s, but I haven't handled the larger silver coins often: we're told to handle them as little as possible while holding them by the edge. Consequently, I've not learned how to distinguish honest silver from fake.Enter the pocket pinger. I got burned by a "deal" for a trade dollar, so I started looking in to easy ways to check for silver that didn't involve chemicals or abrasion. The pocket pinger showed up in my searches and looked like it was almost too good to be true. Not only can I use it with the app, but as I practice, I'm gaining confidence that I can use it by itself, just from the tone it produces.I hope in time, I will be able to identify fakes without it, now that I have a reference I can consult to verify my results in real time. At about the cost of an ounce of silver, this will pay for itself by detecting one fake before I buy.
