for a party how many persons can sit around this table

I host tea parties. Use salad size plates along with tea cups/saucers , two sizes beverage glasses, flat ware; comfortably seats 6 (allows your guests more "elbow room"). Tried 7 place settings but that was way too constricting. Hope that helps.

Is there a crease in the middle that would make it bad for playing cards?

There is a seam, the table folds in half to store. We use the tables for eating on our deck when we have large parties. We are not card players so I'm not sure if the crease would cause a problem. I will say that I think the tables are great for the price!
