Nice mouthpiece
Although my short experience on the sax (1 year) doesn't allow me to take full advantage of a wider tip opening, I give this product 4 stars because its quality is excellent and it performs well, provided you have a powerful air column and a firm embouchure. After a few minutes of warming up with whole notes on the lower register I was able to produce a decent sound, but a short while later I couldn't avoid over-biting or running out of air. So, in a nutshell... "this is a good mouthpiece, but it is not for beginners"

This is a great mouthpiece for the money
This is a great mouthpiece for the money. The roll over compound baffle can be built up with baffle enhancers to make a great step up mouthpiece for students that plays like a much more expensive mouthpiece. It can be a real screamer for lead Alto or Tenor in big band or rock group. Just play softly and it can function well with a warm, round glowing sound in concert band as well. Extremely versatile set up. It is polycarbonate and almost indestructible. Arnold Brilhart was a great man; he knew exactly what he was doing.

Didn't work for me.
I play a 100-year-old true tone buecher alto and when paired with the B5 my intonation was all over the place, as opposed to a Yamaha 6C or 4C using 2.5 Select jazz reeds. I didn't realize the rails extended out as they do/weird.

Beginning band student's favorite mouthpiece
My daughter needed an alto saxophone mouthpiece to upgrade the one that shipped with her new horn. While looking on Amazon at Yamaha mouthpieces I stumbled upon this Rico by accident. I've purchased and used Rico products (reeds) in the past and been pleased, and due to the price difference between Yamaha and Rico (about 20-30%), I thought I'd give Rico a try once again. I was not disappointed. Based upon the previous reviewer mentioning sizes, tones, what each mouthpiece is best used for in terms of performance, I purchased the B5 for my daughter. She is at the end of her first year of middle school band, and will be in both the concert and marching band this coming fall. The B5 produces a warm tone from her Yamaha YAS-23, with plenty of projection. I purchased this ligitature: Rovner Alto Sax Ligature 1RL and use Rico - Alto Sax #2.0 - Box of 10 with it. A good choice for an alto saxophone mouthpiece that should provide years of service to any budding or seasoned musician.

Nice way to test the water when changing mouthpieces
As you improve in your ability, eventually you will want to try a new mouthpiece. That's where I am and I've read a lot about various sizes and materials. But one thing that made the most sense was that for a low cost mouthpiece these were a great way to go. I wanted to try a larger tip opening. So I got a Rico Graftonite and I am very impressed with the quality level. It is nicely made and certainly the best way to make the move. I am still working out the control I need to make the reed work properly for me. But I am hitting altismo notes more easily and, in my case anyway, I didn't need to change reed stiffness. I do get some squeaks but that's me not controlling the reed, and not the mouthpiece. I would recommend these to anyone looking to make a change or looking for a replacement.

This mouthpiece is good for some alto sax players but it squeaks on ...
Its and OK mouthpiece. I'm in band and my old mouthpiece broke and I had to purchase another one. This mouthpiece is good for some alto sax players but it squeaks on higher notes and it you don't align your reed just perfectly it can be very hard to get a good strong blow. price is ok but keep looking if your a beginner!
