North American Healthcare TV3649 Wristech Blood Pressure Monitor
Inexpensive. I did pay attention to the reviews. You have to be very still and keep the monitor at a specific level. It took some time to fine tune the technique. BUT when I finally did (about a week) I am able to get very accurate blood pressures. I am a 20+ year field paramedic in a city that lists in the top 10 largest in the country. In all my years I NEVER trusted any of the automatic BP machines that were provided us as field paramedics. Nothing beats an auscultated BP. Except when your family member is on the other end on the telephone in a city hundreds of miles away. What do you do? You take a 2 week vacation and do the BEST you can. I practiced with my loved one several times a day. The difference was that I had undisturbed, repeated access to my "patient." Over a 2 week period. I was able to get my loved one to take their BP exactly the same way over and over and over again. I got very close reading from left to right arm. They did one arm. I did the other after a few minutes. I am satisfied that IF you are willing to put in the time to learn how to use this specific BP monitor that you will get the same results. My loved one now takes multiple daily PB readings and leaves them as messages on my phone when I can't answer. Their cardiologist has been able to modify the meds based on the log I keep. It is a lifesaver if you put in the time and effort. Their lifestyle and their demand on my NEEDING to be there with them has diminished exponentionally. This model is easy to use but difficult to get accurate results without lots of practice and monitoring by someone who knows how to auscultate a BP. The cost bennefit ratio as I look back at it was well worth the effort because I don't think I could have gotten the compliance I did if it hadn't been so easy for a single person to place on their rist and read (BIG SCREEN WITH BIG NUMBERS).I got exactley what I paid for and would do it all again if I knew what I know now.

Roll the dice!
I own two of these units that appear to be identical. The first my wife bought back on around 2002 and it is dead on accurate every time. Neither of us had HBP at the time, don't ask me why she bought it... In '04 I discovered I had hypertension and began using it regularly. After a year or so I began to worry the unit would wear out so I became an unwilling collector of monitors of different brands. Their prices range from the price of this one to well over $100. My original of this one is the ONLY accurate one including an upper arm unit from a major brand name. I finally found this identical appearing unit on Amazon and excitedly bought another one. It sucks too. I have sent some back and gotten another rotten one in return every time. My suggestion is, at this price, order one and see if it works. If not, keep doing it until you get one that does. I am sure my original unit saved my life. It helped me to determine that I had become sensitive to cheese or any constituent thereof, sending my BP to astronomical levels and no med would lower it. That condition recently "wore off" after 7 years. If this has happened to you and you don't know why, I bet we can agree on what the cause is/was. (NOT a MAOI but has the effect of one!) Feel free to contact me if you have/had this affliction, please!. I wish there were a way to calibrate these things. I have some that give so many erratic readings that calibration just isn't possible, they're nothing but junk and shouldn't be on the market.

Accurate Readings in Doctor's Office
This wrist BP monitor gave a near precise reading at the doctor's office. It is slightly larger than the original Wristech with a slightly larger cuff.Simultaneously, at home, I used the original smaller Wristech and wrote down the numbers, then I used this larger one minutes later on the same wrist, and the numbers were slightly higher on this larger one, which was perfect because the doctor, himself, gave almost the same exact reading in the office when I took it there the same day and we compared in the office. The monitor is not larger, only the wrap around cuff is slightly larger than the original Wristech monitor, giving a more accurate reading. It's easy to set, takes 2 AAA batteries. My BP is high, so it runs, stops, then runs a little more to get the systolic number, then it counts down for the reading. At times, my BP was too high and it ran, stopped, ran, stopped and shut down. So, if it does that to you, just relax and sit down for a while and try again. For me, very accurate, would recommend. Cheap $21.00, free Amazon shipping, 10-2013.

Importance of having a blood pressure monitor in the home
I am so pleased with my blood pressure monitor. My mom is critically ill and in Hospice care, it is very important to have her vitals. So with the monitor I am able to take her vitals and have them available when her nurse arrives. The monitor stores the vitals and gives the time and date, all one has to do is push the recall button and review all vitals taken. LOVE IT!! Many of the staff that comes have went and ordered the same monitor and they have shared they love it.I must also add the price offered is much better than that in the stores. The delivery of my monitor was very timely.Since having the monitor I also see the importance of every household having a blood pressure monitor in their homes to keep record of their pressure just like having scales in your home to take your weight. Having the blood pressure monitor is far more important to have.

Be careful of wrist pressures
I'm an ICU nurse and my experience with wrist pressures is that they are only used as a last resort. Wrist pressures can read as much as 20 mm Hg higher than your real pressure, usually since the wrist is lower than the heart. Obviously, NOTHING is as accurate as a manual blood pressure, I don't care how advanced people think machines can get. However, it's undeniable how convenient this device is and I bought it to monitor my pressure on the fly. Just make sure to follow the instructions that come with the machine, take your pressure at the same time everyday, and you should get consistent, accurate readings.
