Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Tanbarun, there lived an independent young woman with beautiful red hair. A skilled herbalist by trade, Shirayuki used her knowledge of plants and medicine to heal the people of her city. But when her apple-red hair drew the unwanted attention of the devious Prince Raj, she was left with two options-become his unwilling concubine, or leave her home forever. In the dead of night, she cut her hair and escaped to the neighboring kingdom of Clarines where she was found by a kind young man named Zen. The mysterious stranger turned out to be none other than the dashing prince of her newfound kingdom. And with his protection, Shirayuki was finally free to chase her dreams. Now, she's set her sights on becoming a royal court herbalist-and it will take a lot more than poisoned apples, scheming lords, and challenging exams to stand in her way.

Wrong at First Glance
At least based on what I'd first heard, this sounded like a silly modernist approach to fairy tale telling: a non-royal female entrances a small European style kingdom, but that isn't what is really going on here. What we get instead is a surprisingly realistic story, absolutely gorgeously depicted, without your typical anime/manga premises: no harem, no skimpy costumes, no oversized breasts, no heroine able to physically beat the crap out of much stronger men, between the remarkable character of our heroine, Shirayuki, and the second prince of Clarines, Zen Wistalia. They very slowly and very realistically fall in love amid situations and people that are never entirely what you first think of them. Even Shirayuki's second (!) would-be kidnapper intending to enslave her and Zen's ruling older brother Izana are not at all what they first appear. What makes it work is that despite the class differences separating all of them, the central characters all seem to genuinely care for each other and especially for the titular Shirayuki. The story continues inย Snow White With The Red Hair: Season Two ย in the same unexpected episodic pattern, with low key beginning and ending episodes surrounding a multi-episode drama involving multiple kidnapping plots, Shirayuki's past secrets, and the remarkable character arc of Raji Shenazard, the man whose actions drove Shirayuki to flee Tanbarun in the first place.Note: Neither set contains the between seasons OVA.

Amazon you stink the anime itself is only slightly better REVISED 11-12-2016 RE-Revised 2/9/2017 RE-RE-Revised 10/12/2017
Amazon has got to have the absolute worst anime descriptions on planet Earth. In the description we are told this is Japanese language with English subtitles, however the actors were given as follows "Brina Palencia (Actor), Josh Grelle (Actor), " those names don't look very Japanesey to me(yes I know that Japanese is misspelled it applies). Can you at least give us a clue what LANGUAGE THE SHOW IS IN PLEASE!!!!! I am so SICK, SICK, SICK, SICK of this!!! I can't really do too much about it but complain so complain I will, so all you anime dweebs who are gong to criticize my criticism not being about the anime, can bite me. I also do not want to hear that crap about reporting the issue because that also does no good. Amazon knows we will order from them because we are paying the prime rate and getting two day shipping, paying $99.00 a year for this is getting old. Here is a revision to include a review of the anime itself. I like romantic anime series myself so I was interested in this series. It really does have a lot of potential starting off with great English voice actors, along with fair character development. However this anime takes romantic clichรฉ to an almost unbearable extreme. I wanted to finish this thing before I ripped it, but I really am having trouble getting through it due to the creepy fairytale-ish soundtrack (referring specifically to the intro background music of each episode. It totally gives me the creeps. The story is pretty good though and I guess I will buy it after all, and I will even add one and only one star. If it were not for me liking specific works of this genre I would definitely not purchase it, so if you do not like the romantic anime love turn, I wouldn't bother. There is some suspense in it, but that is not what they are striking for here. If the sound track didn't force me to stop watching I would bump it to 4 stars, with my Amazon gripe still in place that would probably push it to 4.5. That is the top end of this one for me as of 11-12-2016. I Preordered season 2 with my PRIME Membership and I'll tell you guys something. Haters or not, If this situation continues, I will write out another 1 star review.! I can practically copy and paste! 2/9/2017 Update 10/12/2017 I have almost finished the first season now forcing my way through the chees background music is fraying my nerves to no end. I would like to build a mountain of flutes and violins 1oo miles high and trample it to bits and then throw it into a volcano!!!!! At this rate I may finish the second season by late next year IF I don't lose my sanity first.

I really hope season 2 come soon!
OMG!!!!! I watched the fist episode on YouTube and was hooked! I love this show, the characters are just awesome, and I really liked how they did it so you could hear the characters thoughts. I really really REALLY hope season 2 comes out on DVD/Blu-ray. There's humor, love, adventure, and even a little passion - in the emotions - I couldn't stop laughing at some points. This is one of my favorite animes and I can honestly say if you love a good romance you'll love this. The characters grow over this season and you see them get closer to each other its not a 'love at first sight' type of thing its a 'I liked you as a friend and then it grew into more' thing. And the fact that he's a higher social class really doesn't matter much to those closest to him, they like him for him, and her hair is just beautiful hair to them its not some thing they want her for.

Double check before you buy
Was a great quality to watch it on the Blu-ray however I expected it to be the complete series. When I read it originally it said complete series but it was not it was only season one it is very expensive for only one season of it. I was disappointed do to that. The other situation of this is even if I wanted to buy season two on DVD on Blu-ray its $89 I find that ridiculous to buy it on amazon for that amount of money there are other companies that sell movie like this however you have to pay shipping seven dollars but they don't charge you $89 dollars for a Blu-ray DVD if you are buying it on amazon you might as well by season one and two even though its $89 just to make sure you have the complete series.

Favorite romantic anime so far!!!
I love this show. It is so cute and romantic like Cinderella. I've watched it on Funimation NOW app many times. My fiancรฉ bought this for me as a Valentine's present.A red Apple hair colored female commoner, Shirayuki, befriends a neighboring kingdom's prince, Zen, as she flees her home kingdom to escape, Raj, its prince who wants her to become his concubine. Shirayuki and Zen go through many different and sometimes interesting obstacles but still end of falling in love.
