Q: I measured 16" below knee, and 18 1/2" above. I have large calves for someone my size. Will a size 4 work?

Hi Jeremy. I don’t remember what I measured myself back when I bought the brace but if you followed exactly how the diagram showed how to, then the brace would be fit perfectly if it falls into size 4

Q: Upper circumference is at the starting numbers of size 4 but lower circumference is at middle of size 5. What circumference is more important?

I find the upper number most important. It is what primarily holds the brace in place. These braces do have considerable stretch. If anything I would go with the smaller size tho, they do get slightly larger with use.
