Perma Child Safety Indoor/Outdoor Retractable Baby Gate 41" Tall, Extends to 71" Wide, White

I didn't want to out up an ugly gate that takes up too much space and this worked out well. This is well hidden when not in use and blends well with my wall.I just adopted 2 dogs and wanted to keep them in a space where they can't do damages around the house or leave me surprise landmines.The set up was a bit tricky with the baseboard, I did misalign a set of holes off the stud but I was able to catch it early and fix it. The gate is secured very well on the stud. My dogs stop at the fence and didn't try to go under around or jump over it.The only problem is that I haven't mastered the one handed lock unlock, pull and retract... instill need to use one hand to twist the locking mechanism to unlock the gate and use both hands to unhook the handle to extend and fmhook the handles. The same goes for retracting the gate...This could be a pro or con, the gate retracts slowly, not like a blond, presumably a safety feature and less stress with fast retracting that may damage the wall or the product.But so far, it seems to do the trick

I purchased this gate with hopes it would keep my senior cats upstairs. I had a handyman install it so I can’t comment on how easy it was to install but it took him 15 min max. I told him it was important to keep it very close to the ground so the smaller cat wouldn’t burrow under it. He was able to achieve this. I like the way it looks when it’s retracted. It’s clean and not noticeable or ugly. My complaint is that it isn’t easy to open and close. It takes two hands so I am constantly setting things down to be able to open it. I know this isn’t made for cats but it seems to be the tallest one out there. I thought it was going to be successful but one of the cats jumped it in the middle of the night on the first night. That was the only jump and I’ve had it up two days. I thought about adding a shorter one above it but it would be so hard to open close and there would be a gap they could go through in the middle I think. I saw the other videos where it dangerously retracted etc and I’m not having that issue. I think it could work well for kids or a dog but sadly not most cats.

This product works amazing to keep my dogs on the porch and from going down the stairs. My only complaint is that it takes 2 hands to operate. In order to open or close the gate you have to press down and turn the knob and then pull the gate (you can let go of the knob once the gate is moving). I wish that the knob was lockable into the unlocked position so that the gate could be operated if you’re carrying something in one hand. No other complaints. I actually thought I bought one with that feature. Whoops. Lol

Easy gate installation, was up in about 5min.Made very well. Perfect height for our 5 dogs. 3 being bloodhounds. My one and only complaint is how to latch and unlatch it’s a pain when you are rushing in to keep the dogs in. You have to twist(very easy) but then pull and if you do not pull enough you have to go back and twist the knob and start all over. Which is hard to do when dogs are rushing through or trying to keep them back. I’m sure it’s something that you will learn in time. It’s also kinda hard to line up the top and bottom. You will definitely need to hands. Love the height though!! Just wish it worked more like a retractable sunshade. Would buy again only if I seen that’s how all the retractable gates are made

This is the second gate that I bought now. One for my living room which I wanted to keep the pets off the couch but of course the cats figured out how to go under. But the dogs can’t get in which is the main thing. I just bought the white one for my door way to keep the dogs out but allow the cats still in. We only shut the bedroom one when we are gone as my one big ass 110 puppy likes to eat shoes and recently moved onto getting the pillows off my bed and ripping them to shreds. He also got to our 2 sitting chairs as well. He drives me mad!So the gates work perfectly! Love that the my retract and I don’t have to set a gate somewhere and watch it fall 🤣Get the gate…it’s worth every penny!
