Give a very detailed account of how the state began…….from 1500 AD to present time. Easy to read and follow….I began reading and couldn’t put it down…..I think one of the best Books

What an amazing book! Dr. Bridges really delivers an iconic book based on his many decades of research and storytelling.

Edwin Bridges has written an eloquent short history of Alabama that is clear, fair, judicious but unapologetic in its treatment of the flaws and peculiarities inherent in its political and socio-economic culture. Moreover, the narrative of this beautifully designed and laid out book, is accompanied by well chosen maps, documents and photographs. If you know nothing about Alabama and want to learn, this is the place where you should start.

This is a very well written, extremely well researched, and very readable history of Alabama. I have been giving this book to friends as a gift. In addition the photographs are very well selected to illustrate the history of the state. If you are at all interested in Alabama, this is a must read.
