I love the colors in my mortar first and foremost. There’s it right there! Baby looks just like the picture! I do wish it was “broken in” or “worn” so the herbs don’t just go around and around… I may try salt or a hard spice that won’t be for eating but for the purpose of wearing it down inside for the grind to be better, you dig? I don’t kno. I’m just an amateur stay-at-home-chef round here.

We opted for this mortar and pestle because it's small, attractive, and functional; something that can stay on the counter with things like salt and pepper shakers. Our primary use has been to grind Himalayan salt to be finer than what comes out of our salt grinder for those times that a preparation works better with a finer grind. Grinding salt is tougher than doing spices so that's a pretty good measure of effectiveness. The marble used to make the mortar and pestle is well-polished with good fit between the mortar bowl and pestle head. It has no pits and cleans up easily. Marble is a rock so there is always the possibility for a fracture, but so far it is holding up nicely. At its price point, that's a minor concern and one that would apply to anything made from marble.

This product is beautiful in craft and in use. I use it to grind up medication for my child and it always comes out smooth. I do recommend this product to anyone that needs a small mortar and pestle.

Small as most other reviewers mentioned, but who needs a larger one? I bought this for the spice Grains of Paradise which I found only in whole form. I've used this to grind up my aging cats medicine to 'hide' in her food too. The description is Green Onyx, mine is more tan in color. I like this is actual stone and not man-made.

I'm okay with small, but this is smaller than expected. It claims to be 2.5 inches in diameter, but I don't think it quite makes it. Also, the images show what must be a very small woman's hand. Be prepared for a very small product.I bought the Green Marble version and it was a lot more plain than the one they show in the pictures. I get that stone differs, but I was hoping for a little more variety in the marbling.Overall, while the product is, for the most part, what they say it is, and it is cute and sturdy, I was still disappointed when I opened the package. So, if you really want to enjoy the product, don't expect much.

I love the small size as I am using it for a pill crusher for my kitties meds.

My fault that I didn’t read the size but the pestle is way to short to be comfortable in crushing anything. My hands were sore after a while.The material is great though.
