Best sounding Android head unit to date...small issues still holding it back...
I want a head unit with very good sound that can also run my off road mapping applications. This one is almost perfect. Finally 2V preamp outputs...still lagging behind name brand head units, but enough noise floor to not be a problem and yes you can simply split the single subwoofer out to two inputs for your amp. Running fronts and sub via RCA preamp and rear from head unit. And it sounds better than the few year old Kenwood that it replaces.Working well with external "key 1, key2" type controls. If your car doesn't have steering wheel controls you will want some type of external controls. I would pay some additional money for a volume rocker on the bezel, like every tablet has.Stock launcher is pretty ugly IMHO, if you could change the gold accents, then maybe...but I really don't understand the point of a car-centric launcher with lots of stuff on the screen. I need easy access to apps and then I'm going to be using an app...So loaded Nova and using Musicolet, Spotify, Google Maps, Caltopo, etc. All apps have been fast loading and responsive.Large screen is quite HD...a bit overkill for the size. You will need to get into developer options and change the smallest width DP to get some larger application fonts and buttons. No darkening with polarized sunglasses. It is large and glossy and will reflect quite badly, but again much easier to see than the Kenwood it replaced... I don't know if current day major brand aftermarket head units are better about sunlight visibility, but car manufacturers seem to have it figured out, not sure why it's still such a problem. I think a matte screen protector will help, but overall, still quite usable. My most negative issue is GPS lock. Once locked it does a pretty good job, perfectly average and usable. However it will sometimes lose lock coming out of sleep and takes either a very long time or manual intervention to get it back working. Since I'm using it for offline offroad navigation, this is a bit deal for me. Also cannot pair bluetooth GPS, so far as I have tried to this point. Will be continuing to monitor this as it become a deal breaker if it gets any worse.Lastly is the instant on...it's either sleep mode only or full off. I need to measure amperage draw of the sleep mode. I haven't had any issues yet, but as I am very battery dependent in multi day off the grid trips, this could become a problem staying in one place too long...I guess you can change it via the menu, but it's a few clicks and requires the password. Having a timeout, where it would shut off after 5 hours or something would be nice...although always instant on is also nice...again, need to measure that parasitic draw...Overall, much better than previous Android head units I have used. No extraneous noise, great sound quality, handles collection of 2000+ songs over USB like a champ, large bright display. Fast and responsive.
