I got this for scooping charcoal and pellets for my grills, and let's just say I live by go big or go home, so the 85 ounce size made sense to me on paper. In practice, it really is huge. It reaches deep into the bag with no problem and moves a ton of charcoal or pellets in a single scoop, which is exactly what I wanted. Honestly, if I'm being fully transparent, I probably could have gone one size smaller and still been happy. This thing is sized more for high volume commercial use than a single grill at home. That said, I have zero regrets about it. It's well built, lightweight for how big it is, tough aluminum material, and gets the job done in one pass instead of two or three smaller scoops. If you're scooping charcoal, pellets, ice, or anything in bulk and don't mind a scoop on the larger side, this size is fantastic. If you only need it for occasional home grilling, it might be worth considering the smaller version first, but i have no regrets with what I got.

I have two similar scoops, one antique, that are much smaller, and have always liked them but found them too small for gardening and repotting tasks. This giant 85-oz scoop quickly remedied that problem and now I can load perlite, compost and soil mixes like a pro. The scoop is lightweight, easily handled, and the right blend of edgy and dull so that it does what it should without being dangerous. As another reviewer showed, the handle leaves aluminum tarnish with use. Just expect it, wear gloves, wash hands after use, or potentially wrap or plasti-dip the handle. This is not really enough to cause a star demerit for me, but it might be for some people.

This large scoop is perfect for distributing mulch around plants. The cast aluminum structure ensures that it will never corrode and will last forever.
