Unusable, expensive, avoid
I’ve two canary cameras, they were not cheap cameras to purchase and having had the premium service I reverted to the free basic plan due to financial pressures and the fact that I wasn’t using any of the premium services. I’m guessing a lot of people also did this as Canary have now updated the software, removed some of the settings from the free basic plan and made them costly premium services. This includes the setting that provided the choice of movement detection, from ALL, to PEOPLE ONLY, or NONE. Now the people only setting has been removed from the basic plan, so you only have the choice of all or none. On All, every movement (from tiny insects to trees in the wind) triggers notifications, making this totally unusable as your phone is constantly alerting you to any movement that triggers the camera.I don’t want a response from canary telling me you’ll give me a special offer where I have to pay you a subscription again, quite honestly there are other cameras that I can purchase for the cost of your subscription service that won’t rip me off like this. Also to note, Canary don’t actually make it easy to withdraw from the premium service once they have you on that hook, they have you on auto renew and you need to try and get through to them by phone to cancel it!Given the already high price of the cameras alone, this change to the basic plan to try and get you onto the paid plan is the ultimate rip-off. If you’re just looking for a baby monitor then you’ll probably be fine on the basic plan, but then why would you pay for this type of camera just to use it as a baby monitor!?Canary, if you even remotely value your customers, you need to reinstate the original content of the basic plan. Otherwise, without the costly premium service, your cameras are nothing more than very expensive baby monitors.
