B&D Slow Cooker for the win
Very nice slow cooker. Our old one quit mid cook and i sure missed having one. Wanted a programmable one but this one caught my eye. I don't know/care about the chalkboard surface (you need to initially prep it by rubbing the included chalk over it then wipe it off for it to be chalk ready)I like the flat black surface it has without being a chalkboard. Simple controls, you got off, low, high & warm. I have only used it on low to make ham-bean soup and I started this soup at 630 A & it was ready by 1:30 P so definitely check your food for doneness & don't rely on a timer. Quite a large cooker, takes up a lot of counter space but for 2 people it makes a large quantity of food (leftovers for days!!). Overall I am pleased so far.

Love Black and Decker but....
Black and decker has always made great tools and appliances I have an old grinder from a century ago ,ok Im exaggerating but it is old and still works and on commercial construction sites where most of the use was done. Back to the crock pot, this thing heats so well, it large, it has a beautiful color and made like a little tank, lid lock even thing is good except the CONTROL PANEL (I can't see it)!!!!1 and its lights its digital and you basically need to take a flashlight to read the script on the controls or just know what they are by memory if you cook that much. FIX the control panel and make it simplistic totally clunky Otherwise, exceptional unit

You will not regret this purchase!
So good! If you take your crockpot to places for pot lucks etc, you HAVE to have this product. I already want to buy another one so I can make and take two crockpots full of stuff everyday everywhere. I can't tell you how many times I have cleaned up spilled messes despite packing things around my crockpot in the car. The secured lid AND the rubber sealing around the top makes this item excellent! This one DOES NOT SPILL. I love the chalkboard side too because I able to put information right on the crockpot about the contents. I can write "vegetarian" etc. It would be great for people with allergies - you can write "gluten-free" or whatever you want on the side.

Terrible, Untrustworthy Cooker
UPDATE: I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE BUY THIS APPLIANCE. YOU CANNOT TRUST IT TO COOK PROPERLY.So, the slow cooker that Black & Decker sent to replace my first one malfunctioned on the first use. Once again, it cooked properly for a few hours, but at some point (possibly after I added a couple of hours to the cooking time), it quit heating. I tried everything to "restart" the heating; reset the panel, removed the crock and put it back, and even unplugged the pot and plugged it back in, yet it never restarted. Black and Decker must know that the controllers on these pots are problematic. There are too many reviews below that complain about the same problem. But they have decided it is easier to work with those that complain and go through having it replaced.PREVIOUS REVIEW: I bought this crock pot a few years ago, but only use it occasionally. I needed a larger pot for some church functions, and really wanted the programmable features. However, I realized in the 10-12 times I've used it, that sometimes it doesn't come up to heat properly. The final straw occurred a few days ago, when I cooked a large batch of baked beans for a church function. It cooked perfectly on low for 5 hours, during which time I checked on it and saw that it was working. I believe when it changed over to "keep warm", the element went off completely. And when I tried to reset it to "high" to warm it back up prior to leaving for the function, it didn't heat up at all. I realized that this type of malfunction had occurred on several occasions (maybe 30% of the times I've used it). Thankfully, I haven't ruined any of the large batches of food even though I had to swap some of them over to a smaller, simpler crock pot to cook. After I realized that I was having a consistent issue with the appliance, I contacted the manufacturer, described the problem, and they offered to replace it for only a small, very reasonable shipping fee. So, kudos to the manufacturer for backing their product, even when it's out of warranty.

Great cooker.
I don't really care about the chalkboard coating on this but I love the flat black appearance it gives. The cooker works just as it should and I really like snap down lid. Just keep in mind that it has a vent hole because it's not a pressure cooker and it would probably explode if it wasn't ventilated. So when transporting the cooker make sure to tape the hole or plug it somehow, just remember to remove your plug before turning the unit back on.
