Sorry for the long life story before the review (skip to next paragraph if just wanting the review): As one who loves all animals (and has had mice as pets in her youth) but who has enough common sense to know that wild mice running freely in a home is a definite NO due to diseases they carry and the filth/mess they create if not in a caged, managed, cleaned (i.e. a pet friendly) environment, I knew I had to come up with some solution when I suddenly found a mouse in my basement after I had a new furnace installed. I tried humane traps, I tried deterrents of all kinds, I tried outdoor sprays, mothballs, peppermint essential oils and while I believe those "sort of" helped, it was not 100%. I KNOW I will NEVER use a glue trap (that is true torture for the creature!!!!) or poison as they may die outside and poison another critter if eaten or they may die between walls in the house and attract more critters. Finally a neighbor set some snap traps and my heart broke EVERY SINGLE TIME. While effective, it was awful. I could hear it, some looked like they were injured instead of instant and likely died slowly and then there was clean up. I just couldn't - so the neighbor had to keep coming back if someone was caught. Fast forward, the neighbor is no longer there, I've had a mouse free home for years (using preventative methods still, sprays, powders, peppermint oil, etc.) and have kept a couple snap traps refreshed and baited for a while. Suddenly I noticed peanut butter is missing on both traps but nothing triggered. Back to the internet, I see these electric traps. I watched and read review after review, watched YouTube on how to use and discard, read that it is still torture but it's quick and has less chance of causing a bad injury but not death, etc. and decided to give it a try. My stomach still turns and my heart hurts everytime I set it up and worse yet when I see the light flashing that someone is in there. But out of all my experiences in dealing with this, so far, this has been the best option for me in managing this. In a perfect world, they would all climb into a humane trap, get spayed/neutered and released in a happy mouse haven where they could live out their days in freedom. However, the reality is they can't live here. So finally the review: The trap is compact, neat and easy to understand. I put a small pea sized amount of peanut butter in the bait area with a toothpick and put the lid back on, installed batteries (4 AA), set the trap along a wall with the opening facing out, turned it on. The green light flashed to indicate it was ready. 2 days later....nothing. I went back and put a tiny, thin smear of peanut butter on the outside of the trap bait area and the next day the green light was flashing to indicate someone was in there. I turned off the trap and it certainly wasn't pleasant opening the top to find a dead mouse, but it was easier to drop it out into a bag, close the trap, and reset it after I re-smeared the outside a teensy bit. The next day, round 2 was caught. I don't have to touch the dead mouse, I don't have to look at it, and I haven't heard the trap "do it's job" like I did the snap traps. I have since set another one and see how this goes. I don't look forward to having to clean the trap but rather this than some of the other options. I appreciated the warnings that the trap should be placed in a clean, dry area away from anything flammable (laundry lint, chemicals, etc.) and that it is intended for indoor use only. I also liked the suggestion of uninstalling the batteries if concerned about getting an accidental shock during cleaning or removing the dead. If anything changes in my review, I'll update it but so far this seems to be the way to go for me - I wish I could find their entry point(s) and prevent all of this. :( RIP little mice. :'(

We heard noises in a partition wall of our kitchen the weekend after Thanksgiving. I ignored it for a couple of days until I actually saw the mouse. I called our pest control company - no results (quite frustrating). I bought about 3 different kinds of glue traps - no results. There is actually one kind of glue trap sold on Amazon that I placed to only watch the mouse crawl over it like a bridge. I bought 3 different kinds of snap traps - no results. I bought the spin traps - no result. I tried the old ¨bucket trick¨ - no results. At this point I am about 3 weeks into the frustrating situation of having a mouse in my house with a concerned wife, a 3 year-old, and a newborn. I finally got my son to leave the traps alone, but explaining why they were there just concerned him. I finally came across the Owltra electric traps. Humane, reusable, effective - at this point I've filtered through many products and I've heard it all. I am about $200 into a never-ending battle - why not try Owltra? The product is well made but is low profile. I was able to fit it behind a couch that seemed to be the mouses favorite tunnel (even through no glue trap or snap trap in that location had produced results). A week goes by and I am still frustrated. I happened to glance over behind the couch and I finally saw the green light! No mess, no agonizing mouse, no problem. These traps might be reusable, but I just took the batteries out and tossed the whole thing into the garbage can outside. These traps aren't exactly cheap, but I was not willing to clean up after a dead mouse and reuse the trap. The mouse was actually larger than expected and this trap still got the job done. A week went by and my wife wakes me up last night. She heard scratching in the wall when she went to the kitchen for a mid-night drink of water. Great! Here we go again. I had left the second of the two Owltra traps in place behind the couch. I figured it could just live behind the couch. I went and walked the kitchen after my wife woke up and heard nothing. Went to lay back down with the thought of having to deal with another rodent in my house with small children. I woke up about an hour ago to do my morning computer work before my children wake up. I came out to my living room and saw the green light of success flashing nice and bright before I could turn the lights on. Now I'm not excited that I have had 2 mice in my house in the last month when I had only had a mouse in my house one other time in the last 8 years, but I am quite excited about this product. I do not typically write reviews, but this product has worked great. It is not the cheapest solution, but I believe it is money well spent.

I hate giving this a 5 star review, because the thought of killing these sweet little creatures weighs heavy on my heart every time I have to do it. But after there had been increasing evidence of mice in my pottery studio, I had to do something or I'd fear I'd begin having snakes - and I really don't want that. Besides the fact that they've been investigating around my kiln and pottery wheel, and I don't need my wires chewed out of either of those! So after doing some research, I asked myself "which way would I want to go - smashed head and painful death, or quick electric shock?" and that was pretty much it. These are effective, quite, they are sturdy enough in weight that they don't slide around. There was no odor (as long as you check them frequently), and I haven't had to really clean them yet, so not sure on the aspect of that. Very easy to install. My husband was so impressed, he was even talking about getting them for friends/family for Christmas... (not sure that's a great Christmas gift... but?) Anyway. If you're looking for (probably) the most humane way to kill mice, this would probably be your best bet. Always try to find the entry points as well and close them up, but if it all fails or you just have a common mice problem like a lot of basements, old farm houses, garage, etc., then I highly recommend these.

(Just updating this...) please listen carefully, either read up a lot about how to find the best places to put the traps, which bait to use, etc., or be patient as you figure it out, or find a knowledgeable person to consult with, because once you get those parts right, these things are so worth the money. Whoever is having durability or battery issues with these, I cant relate in my experience. (Original review) I probably baited them incorrectly the first time so I was getting skeptical, but I went all "protein + pb&j" in the bait compartment and I don't know if I'm happy or just want to hurl but I've caught 4 in the past 2hrs, 1 day after switching up the bait. Wow! (Update) Chocolate as bait!!! A tiny piece wedged in the compartment has likely caught 20+ mice. (Gross, indeed, but it's doing it's job as well as I could hope for. Same four brand name/premium AA disposable batteries since day one. (Original review) There are few things I hate more than having to kill mice because I've failed at excluding them from my living space, but it's been a rough winter in New England and I know I'm not alone battling mice this year. But no flipping around suffering mice in byzantine snap traps, no flush of guilt and panic trying to figure out how to euthanize them when they're partially caught in a snap trap. And if I didn't have to work as much as I do and I could check a live bucket trap every hour (ONCE AN HOUR) and figure out where to rehome them humanely so they had a chance at survival, I would. Yes, this is the best option if they keep up with today's rate of effectiveness. I'm getting more of these. Amazing. Get your bait down though if you want them to work because they need to choose to enter for a reason rather than using the effectiveness of a snap trap placed perpendicular against something on their "routes." I think if the bait is correct, you'll find them effective. And yes EASY assembly, too. Nothing to it. (Update) best option for the home I can possibly imagine exists. 100% improvement over next best option (whatever that may be). Also, make sure to clean them per Owltra directions. Hydrogen peroxide spray on a soft brush, remove batteries, brush the device to remove human/previous mouse scent, let dry before powering on. It takes maybe 90 seconds to clean it and power it back on. Really negligible inconvenience especially compared to setting/resetting snap traps.

(This review is for the mouse version not the larger rodent or rat versions.) You can buy a bunch of cheap snap traps for the price of just one of these electronic traps. I bought those cheap ones first but there were so many drawbacks to them I switched to these and I'm happy I did. The first reason I didn't like the snap traps is that when they work you've got a (hopefully) dead mouse in plain view. I don't like walking into my kitchen and seeing a mouse carcass. With these traps everything is covered and out of sight until you're ready to deal with it. Yes the dead mouse is still there with these but I don't have to look at it until I'm ready. Another reason I don't like the cheap snap traps is that you have to arrange barriers so that the mouse can get to them but pets can't. I have two cats and quickly found out the barriers need to be pretty big and heavy to keep the cats away from the trap and the caught mouse. Kind of a hassle when I needed to place the traps around my kitchen. But But the biggest reason I switched from the cheap traps is that they don't always kill the mouse. Unfortunately, they sometimes just crush part of the mouse without killing it leaving it alive but suffering in pain in the trap until you notice it (which could be hours if you're away or asleep). I don't want mice in my house or garage but I also don't want fellow mammals to suffer needlessly. These traps worked great for me and eliminated the mice that had infiltrated my house within 3 days. They are easy to empty—just lift off the lid and dump into a trash can. You don't need to touch the carcass, pry it out of the trap or even look at it. Quick and convenient and the trap is ready to go for the next mouse as soon as you put the lid back on and flip the switch. I happened to be nearby when one of the traps caught a mouse. The trap emits a low whine or buzzing sound when it's activated. It's pretty quiet but I was able to notice it in a silent room. It stays activated for a while (I'd guess about a minute) to make sure the job is done. When it stops making noise after a short wait the light starts to flash to let you know it's caught a mouse. A previous reviewer mentioned a smell but fortunately there was no smell at all that I could detect. I had no issues with non-kills; when the light was flashing on my traps there was always a dead mouse inside. I'd guess an issue some other reviewer may have had is if the contacts that connect the top to the bottom get dirty or corroded. The trap likely won't work properly if it can't make a solid electrical connection. I have two cats and I wanted to make sure these traps would be safe around them. Fortunately, the way these traps are designed with the location of the opening and the internal barriers there is absolutely no way even the most inquisitive cat is going to be able to get a paw in there let alone have two different paws touch the two metal plates. (Without going into the details on how this type of trap works a mouse would need to contact one of the metal plates with a front foot and the other with a back foot in order to be dispatched.) There is no way even a small cat or dog could do that and the voltage and current likely wouldn't be enough even if they could. You don't need to worry about your cats with this trap. Obviously, though, if you have rodent-sized pets such as hamsters you'll want to make sure they can't get near these. One thing I would change about this trap is to make the bait cup removable for easier cleaning and changing of the bait. What I did is put my bait peanut butter on a small scrap of paper and then put that down in the bait cup so that the peanut butter didn't stick to the trap itself. Another thing I would change is to have the trap self-test the connection to the bottom part when turned on. It should flash or something to let you know if the contacts are not making an adequate connection. I'm very happy with these traps and definitely recommend them despite the high price.

I absolutely love these traps! When I put them out the first day, I caught two mice right away. It was no muss no fuss! After I saw that the green light was flashing and knew I had caught something I turned the power off opened it up and then my were in there dead at the door now! All I had to do was flip it over into the trash and it was gone. Unlike blue traps which are barbaric, I did not have to watch the thing suffer. The mice died immediately upon touching the metal portion trying to get to the bait. I did not have to handle anything or use gloves just turn it upside down in the trash and it was clean and ready to go again!

What I appreciate most is how safe and contained it feels. No exposed parts, no unpleasant cleanup, and no worrying about pets or kids getting into it. It’s compact, easy to empty, and resets instantly. Within the first 24 hours, it solved a problem I’d been dealing with for weeks. If you want something reliable, sanitary, and effective, this is the trap to get. OWLTRA nailed it. Highly recommended.

First the most important detail, this does technically work. I put it on my patio to test yesterday and it killed one mouse like it was supposed to. It lights up green every ten seconds once it catches something. Pros: no annoying alarm. It just lights up when it catches something. It also tells you when the batteries are low which is important since it will only work with good batteries. Cons: the side door is annoying because it means you can't just dump the mouse out into the trash, you have to open the trap up, which would be fine if that was easy to do. This trap has a lid that you have to pull up on, so if there is a dead mouse inside you risk the mouse flying at you because it's not easy to open. This is the second trap I've bought and the first one it slides across the top, so it's very easy to open and I can dump the mouse first because the door is not on the side.

You're reading this because you have a mouse (you probably have way more than you know) and you're looking at traps but you're not a monster so don't want to get a mechanical kill trap that could just maim them or a sticky trap that leads to a slow painful death. You might be deciding between these, which seem more expensive, or cheaper catch-and-release traps. Let me save you some time and money ... If you get a catch and release trap you have to let the mouse go somewhere and you might think the garden is fine. If it's freezing cold it could just mean a slower painful death because it doesn't have a home but more likely the mouse will be back in your house, shed, or garage before you are. Seriously, you need to release them 1-2 miles away for them not to come back. Yes, MILES! Do you have the time or inclination to be taking mice for day trips out to the countryside? Of course not. They also need a lot more cleaning because mice make a mess while waiting for you to come and check on the trap. Trust me, you'll get tired of them very quickly because they are ineffective and the money you spent on them will be wasted, so you'll be back here anyway. These are super-effective and give a guaranteed quick death, and they are much easier to empty and clean. With a couple of these you'll be through your mouse issue in way less time and will also be able to leave them down as a preventative measure without the need to keep checking on them multiple times a day as you would with a live-trap (without feeling bad if you find a skeleton of Mickey in a months time). It works out cheaper to just buy these from the start and they are much easier to use.

Amazing product we had a small rat at house due to kids we couldn't use any toxic or poisonous pills. Then I found this product and within a single day got rid of mouse.

LasTRAMPAS DE PEGAMENTO, deberían ser prohibidas y dejar de salir a la venta, al igual que el veneno, pues sin lugar a dudas son dos maneras muy crueles y despiadadas de llevar a la muerte a un ser vivo.
