Nice vacuum, would recommend
In reading a couple of other reviews, I saw others say this is heavy or noisy. I'm not sure what they are comparing it to, but I think it is neither. I bought this to replace a 10 year old Kenmore that was a top Consumer Reports pick at the time. The old Kenmore also had the ability to turn off the rotating brush for floors or small rugs, which I was looking for so I was happy to see that option on this Miele. The old Kenmore had 3 suction level options for the hand tools (3 motor speeds) that could make it quieter when high suction power was not needed. The dial on this Miele gives it a variable speed motor. On the highest setting, this Miele is no louder than the old Kenmore was on its lowest setting, and has plenty of power. The lowest setting is really quiet. I am happy to hear the Miele's much quieter motor. This Miele is much easier to maneuver thanks to its ability to turn with a twist, and it is much lighter than the old Kenmore. So, heavy? No. Loud? No. Quiet and easy to use? Yes.Another reviewer made it a con to have a bag. I have hated every minute of emptying the bin and cleaning or replacing dirty filters on my old bagless vacs. I will gladly buy new bags and avoid inhaling the cloud of dust when emptying the bagless. This Miele came without any paperwork in the box. Not sure why or how but I was able to download the operating manual from the Miele website. This Miele is a nice vacuum, which must be true because my wife gave it her approval too. If you are looking to replace a years old vacuum you will be happy with this. The old Kenmore served us well and is being sent to the basement to rest its roller in its golden years. The old basement bagless is going in the trash.

Worth the price and quiet!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had every brand of vacuum over the years. In the past decade I had two upright Orecks which I purchased because they were lightweight and recommended for heart patients. I am 65 years old and always do my own housework. After 10 years of usage and with repairs. the Orecks fell apart. I decided to try Miele. I thought they were rather expensive, however, one Miele is much cheaper than two upright Orecks. In addition, the Miele is so much better constructed.I did not buy the Miele with the headlight in order to save money. I just turn the light on in the room when I vacuum and it works out just fine. My husband noticed right away how quiet the Miele was. After decades of Kenmore, Eureka, Hoover, Sharp,Dust Devil, Oreck... he just could not believe he could be in the same room as a running vacuum and not mind it (and he has excellent hearing, by the way). The Miele picks up everything with no problem and it is easier on a heart patient than the lightweight Oreck upright.

The best vacuum cleaner we ever had
The best vacuum cleaner we ever had! It cleans pet hair, wool rug shedding, and dust / dirt like a champ. Easily worth the price and more. If you're like me, you tend to do a lot of research (and possibly over-analyze a bit) when shopping for tools and appliances. Let me save you the trouble- buy this Miele, you won't be sorry!

Bad then Great then not so great than Ok
The first unit I received was damaged to the point that I couldn't use it. This was partially the shippers fault as it was dropped several times, but the packaging was not as good as it needs to be for a heavy large object that you just know the shippers are going to drop. But no questions asked, they shipped me a new one. It was fine. You will love the swivel aspect but its hard to explain. Think motorcylce instead of car. Its very easy to move the think around to get into corners and change direction while you are mowing the carpet.I made the mistake of vacuuming up some cut up little peices of paper and they got stuck inside the machine and although there is a little clean out hatch, its not easy to get in there as its curved and I'm still not sure I got all the paper peices out. The paper acted like plague in a fat person's arteries and stuck to the walls and the whole vacuum became worthless and had no suction. At least it works now, but not as good as at first. As long as you don't get a damaged one or get things stuck in the inner tube, you should like it.

High Quality vacuum and usable on all types of floors. Great to clean up kids messes and pet hair.
This is a high quality vacuum. We've had for 18 months and haven't had any issues. With 3 kids and a dog that sheds I needed something that could stand up to messes and this has been awesome. I use this on my carpets, rugs, wood floors, tile floors, stairs, ceiling fans...almost anything that can be vacuumed. I've been amazed at the suction the vacuum has..rarely do I sweep my hard floors any more. With our old vacuum, we had issues with pet odor filling our house after we vacuumed. The only time we've noticed this happening with the Miele is when it's time to change the bag, which is very easy to do and virtually no mess. It is a little heavier than normal vacuums, I don't have a problem pushing/pulling it, but I can see how it could be difficult for some. My 5 year old daughter has actually vacuumed our living room with it before. I use the hose and attachments all the time and find they suction the best when the mode it turned to "smooth" floor. My only frustrations is that it is difficult to use the hose unless the electrical cord is completely unwrapped off of the vacuum. Not the best functional layout of the cord storage location.
