So, the blade is not actually titanium; is it..? "Carbonitride Titanium Blades" sounds like an intentionally misleading description

Carbonitride Titanium is a trademark name for the patented process, not the blade material description. It refers to an application of a unique formulation of titanium and chromium nitride to the surface of cutting blades that actually penetrates and treats the metal to create a permanent molecular bond with the blade surface which gives it corrosion resistance, adhesive resistance of titanium and the process itself makes the stainless steel 3x harder than untreated stainless. Is this 100% rust proof? What about if the blade is sharpened?

Definitely not rust proof. If you immerse this in salt water and leave it, it will rust out. The VG-10 TiCN PVD blade might do ok, but it's edge, and the entire steel frame and spike will be destroyed after a few days. The only truly fully rust proof knife I would recommend is the Spyderco Salt series of knives. There are others, but those are the best and not that expensive. I have gone scuba diving with those and left them with no rinsing for days or weeks, not a spot of rust anywhere.

As indicated by the previous responses, the steel is made in Japan and the knife is made in China. It is, however, a very well-made implement.
