Firestarter, the unforgettable best-seller by esteemed horror author Stephen King, chronicles the extraordinary life of Charlene Charlie McGee. Eight-year-old Drew Barrymore stars as the child who has the amazing ability to start fires with just a glance. Can her psychic power and the love of her father save her from the threatening government agency, "The Shop," that wants her destroyed Filled with blazing special effects and featuring an all-star cast including Martin Sheen and Heather Locklear, Art Carney, Louise Fletcher and George C. Scott, Firestarter is a must-own film for any fan of the supernatural.Bonus Content: Theatrical Trailer Review: Oh how I remember this - I first saw this film on a rented VHS tape delivered by a mobile rental company in the mid eighties. I only had it because it was by Stephen King and there weren't that many choices in the van, it being a very new thing back then when VHS players were huge things and very expensive. The gorgeous, heartbreakingly beautiful Heather Locklear met her demise early which surprised me and from then on the film just got better and better with real nasty villains after a surviving, loving father desperately trying to save his daughter Charlie, played by Drew Barrymore. Drew Barrymore captured my attention forever with her portrayal of Charlie in this film, she was brilliant and I don't think the part could have been played as well or as profoundly by anyone else. I watched it over and over for a week until it was time for the guy to come and collect it. When he did I asked him could he get me a copy for myself to which he answered "It won't be cheap". He wasn't joking either because as far as I know the public couldn't buy them although I might be wrong. He had to get it as a rental company so when he brought it to me weeks later it cost me £48 - around 1985 this was really expensive. The reason I am putting this here is to indicate how much I thought of this film, and in fact still do. I still have the videotape, I got the DVD but I am hoping that one day this file will be put on Blu-ray and given the treatment it has always deserved. The film is without a doubt a classic and watchable even today. It is thoroughly entertaining and once watched won't easily be forgotten. The first film I ever owned is still one of my all time favourites, Firestarter holds a special place in my heart and I think it will in yours should you decide to buy it. Review: Firestarter - This film is a great one to watch would definitely recommend it

review of the PLANB dual format version.
Finally a great edition of this Stephen King adaptation.Hope you like the photo of Ms.Barrymore on the outer sleeve,as it appears 9 more times inside.Extra's plenty - over 50 min making of with the director and others involved.20 mins with Johannes Schmoelling (part of Tan'.Dream at time)inc two & half minute piano version of main theme.2 very different commentaries; one as director is watching the film and giving his memories on the specific scenes. The other a well researched essay read out by Johnny Mains with thoughts on Stephen King books & films(and his brief opinions on them).A lot of details on real events such as the drug research/spontanious combustion/ and a real firestarter(albeit just thin paper,by blowing on it,and possible explanation of how it was done). So a lot of info' to take in, - as expected the picture looks fabulous, mono sound good enough for me.

A DVD Review
Review for the Prism edition. The back of the box states 16:9 which could either lead you to believe that it is either 1.85:1 widescreen or anamorphic. It is in fact the correct aspect ratio of 2.35:1 non-anamorphic, this means you need to expand the picture to fill the screen although it will still have black bars top and bottom. The picture is slightly grainy and has obviously not been cleaned up but this is a treatment that many older films receive on DVD. I am just happy to have the film in the correct aspect ratio. TV companies either show it in 16:9 which mean the sides are cropped. Audio is in stereo. One day Firestarter might receive the collector's edition treatment it deserves and hopefully will include a commentary like the excellent one on The Dead Zone (Sanctuary Special Edition)R2 only.

Don’t let the 5 Stars fool you! Read on.
I may have given it 5 stars, and deservedly so. But that’s just for the actual movie itself. A fantastic movie based on the Stephen King novel. However the way the picture is of letter box material and in the middle of the screen (small screen big black border.) As a fan I will still watch it but not with friends as well they won’t be as easy with the review as I have.

not bad - but not as I remember it - with my rose tinted memory spectacles.
I loved the book, and in my memory it was a really good film too, however its not really aged as well as some other blurays like Lawrence of Arabia or 2001, which are older and great quality. This film is ok, the picture quality is great but the sound is just stereo. What really lets it down is the 80's music and tight fitting suits. A film of its time, not really a timeless classic, and it shows. I watched it once, maybe the kids will watch it when they are older, perhaps renting it would have been wiser. The UV code is difficult to redeem in the UK and even when you do nothing UK based will actually play it.
