Perfect book for anyone who loves Marc's paintings.

This little paperback (96 pages, 7 1/4 x 9 inches ) offers a good overview of the artist's life and work, both in narrative and images. There are numerous artworks of varying sizes and the selection is (in my opinion) a good sampling of Marc's work. The images are well reproduced and the typeface sharp. The paperback cover is slick, and doubled dustjacket-style front and back, which will help its shelf life. There also is a timeline in the back of the book of Marc's life and work. It received 4 stars because the type is small...I'd say 8 pt., which is too small to comfortably read at length.

The quality of the images is great. Lots of them. My only negative is that publisher/editor tries to make big images by splitting them onto two pages. What painter would want his images presented with a thick line (the book seam) running up the middle?Text is more useful than in many art books. Gives a straightforward description of Marc's life and his development as an artist. So tragic that his life was cut off when he was still young by a stupid war.

The book has many full page color photos printed on strong glossy paper. How Taschen can produce their line of books at an extremely low price is amazing.As usual the book covers Marc's life and how he thought with great detail without getting bogged down in minutia or psychobabble about his intents making the many works he produced in such a short time.

Great book on Franz Marc. Image quality is fantastic, nice and sharp. The text describing Marc's life, his painting and technique are well done and informative. With very few books solely devoted to Marc on the market this book is a must have for fans and art students. Taschen dose a great job with the Basic Art series of books and this is one of their best.

I especially like the brilliant colors that Marc used in his paintings. This book is a very good representation of his original paintings. I recommend this book to people who like Franz Marc and also to those with no art background, but who enjoy color and composition.

I used this book to help give an art lesson & guide a painting project for our 4-H club. It was very helpful & the kids had a great time.

本当に繊細で美しい絵画だと思います。抽象画の中に動物が書かれています。フランツマルクの、動物への愛がひしひしと伝わってきます。動物の穏やかさがあり、不安な要素があり、眺めていて胸が痛くなるものすらあります。日本語の翻訳があれば良いのに！と思います。

I purchased this copy after borrowing one from the library. If you love Franz Marc works to look at or would like to get to know more about this very talented artist, I would highly recommend this book.

Well written and well illustrated account of this seminal German Expressionist painter, particularly known for his paintings of animals.. Recommended.

A comprehensive study well produced and acts as a good introduction to the subject.
