Great addition to any vocalist pedal board
Great addition to any vocalist pedal board. Some really nice presets. I've use it several times on live gigs and have no issues whatsoever. Great product

Great bang for your buck, vocalists
I bought this pedal for live performances, and I use it sparingly to create a chorus-like effect on some sections of some songs. And it does its job without a hitch. I mainly use the "group" setting to emulate doubling/tripling vocal tracks on a recording.I recommend it for live performances, not so much as a replacement for double-tracking during recording. It tends to sound a little thin on a recording, but with all the natural reverb in a live setting it sounds huge.I also use the TC Helicon E1, which gives my singing delay. It works great with the D1 - the two provide nice effects to enhance vocals during a live setting. You can check out my song here to hear the pedal in action: [...]I used the TC Helicon D1 for the choruses. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of an issue I have sometimes during a live setting. As you probably know it works as a stompbox, but if I actually press hard with my foot when activating it, it sometimes produces a huge "POP!" through the PA. As a result, I have to tap it with my foot rather gently. This may be the cables, however. I haven't had a chance to check yet.

Distortion
I was disappointed with this pedal. I found that with the dry/wet know turned all the way to wet, and while using the Thicken preset, I could very nearly get the tone and effect I was looking for. I sing in a Depeche Mode-esque type of band so was looking to achieve that sound. I was pretty happy with the pedal until trying it out with the full band.. I found that in portions of songs that required slightly more vocal volume (nowhere near screaming, just a little more energy) I got a very noticeable distortion. This was with the gain on the pedal turned to about 1/4 of it's full output. I reduced the gain even more and applied volume at the mixer and this improved the condition but did not entirely remove it. It should be noted that the mixer meters were nowhere near clipping, so the distortion was definitely coming from the pedal, and had nothing to do with overall volume through the PA. The condition was not present when the pedal was in bypass mode. I've requested a return.

Looking to improve vocal quality - this is it
We have one singer in our 3 person group (Guitar, Bass and Drums) and he is also the guitar player. The D1 does an excellent job of thickening the vocals as well as improving the overall sound of the vocal. Would recommend to any singer that wants that little "extra". We use it in conjunction with the C1 for pitch correction.

If not for the VoiceLive Play, I might have gotten this
If the Voicelive Play did not exist, I might have given this one a shot. I have them both here on my bed, trying them out, through the speaker and headphones. For the price point, the D1 wins, if your needs are such that it does the trick for you.Compared to the VoiceLive, I simply could not dial in the clarity I wanted on the D1. It gets big points for a simple interface, but after listening to the headphones side by side, my voice sounded more clear and natural with the VoiceLive Play. For my needs, I only found the Detune and Thick useful. I did detect a bit of the metallic sound others complained about, and yes, I did adjust it through a range of wet/dry settings. It wasn't that noticeable at 9 o'clock position. If I were not comparing it to the VL Play, it might rank a 4. It's probably an unfair comparison, because with the VL Play, I can dial in a number of effects, though I'm primarily using the features that the D1 encompasses.Do like I did, get both, A/B them, and make your decision.addenda: i returned the voicelive play too. Listening in the bedroom with headphones is no replacement for playing live through a sound system. The group decision was "turn that thing off. "

Works Fine
Kinda like it . . . works fine, think I'll keep this one. Overall, don't have too much to complain . . . to complain about . . . yet.
