The bushing's edges rise same amount on both sides. Stiff plastic does not give enough to fit into shifter head. Broke both within an hour trying to fit into shifter head with pliers, etc. They cracked then broke. Gave up and used duct tape and 80lb braid fishing line. A few raps of thin strips of duct tape around the spindle. Then drilled a small hole in the black plastic shifter lever (that the shifter head attaches to). Put the shifter head onto the shifter pin, tied braid to the shifter head and put several loops (over and under) thru the hole in the shifter lever. Tied it up. Good to go. Total cost: $0.00 using existing materials.

This gromet fit perfectly inside the end of the shifter cable. Then a shot of WD40 on the mounting post and it popped right on. A 10mm socket and about an hour to re-install the entire dashboard and center console. Shifter operates perfectly now. Ready for another 100K miles with a spare.

This piece is good to resolve and to have an extra one since this issues happened often in these cars but after a month or so of the installation the gear is loose and not as usual. Since the only change close by the gear is this pierce I wouldn't necessarily buy this again I would try to find a different option or brand.

In order to put this unit on, you have to obviously take off part of that – but once you’ve got it taken apart that for you need to warm up the washer because indeed it is a clip and it is very hard to push on unless you warm it up

Ok product but the material is a little hard and can be difficult to install
